Position Responsibilities
During the Co-op, you will collaborate with EIT’s, PE’s an Project Managers in the completion of traditional design-big-build and alternative delivery infrastructure projects. Duties will include hydrologic & hydraulic modeling, scour analysis, highway drainage design, stormwater management, traffic modeling, and roadway design while complying with local, State DOT, and DHEC requirements.  Under the guidance of a PE, you will perform the following duties:
  • Assist in the completion of drainage designs for highway and bridge construction projects.
  • Produce high-quality drainage designs, profiles, stormwater alleviation plans, and pavement drainage solutions.
  • Review documents and design work for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Perform engineering calculations and develop hydrologic and hydraulic models.
  • Participate in field investigations and assessments at project sites to provide valuable insights for the hydraulic design process, some travel may be required in the Southeast.
  • Coordinate drainage design activities for highway and bridge construction projects, including technical planning, design, and construction support for hydrologic and hydraulic models, erosion control, stormwater abatement, and green infrastructure.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications and permit submittals for traffic modeling and roadway design.
  • Contribute to the development of preliminary project cost estimates and quantity evaluations.
  • Assist engineers with documents and aid with the design work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications set by the DOT.
  • Attend client, public, project, and staff meetings, actively participating in client progress updates, plan reviews, and pre-construction discussions.
Requirements
  • Must be a Clemson University student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering.
  • Junior or Senior required.
  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with computer programs such as MicroStation, GEOPAK Drainage, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-20, FHWA Hydraulics Toolbox, HY8, etc. or similar type programs are a plus, but not required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must complete a pre-employment screening. ICE is a drug free workplace.

Throughout this Co-op experience, you will be immersed in a dynamic environment, collaborating on an array of projects spanning the Southeastern region. ICE is a full-service transportation consulting and design firm, distinguished by its extensive spectrum of expertise, encompassing disciplines such as highways, bridges and structures, hydrology and hydraulic design, geotechnical engineering, foundation testing, environmental documentation (NEPA), construction services, and aviation design.

You'll have the opportunity to tackle storm sewer design, culvert analysis, pond design, energy dissipation design, FEMA analysis, flood control modeling, scour analysis, riverine analysis for multidimensional flow, erosion and sediment control, traffic modeling, and roadway design. Additionally, you will gain experience with NPDES permitting and stormwater management which plays a crucial role in ensuring environmental sustainability.

Work Environment
The position operates primarily in an office environment. Must be able to operate PC-based systems at a workstation for 8 hours per day and overtime if needed. May be required to lift heavy objects, excessive walking, driving, bending, and reaching, pointing, or directing objects or materials. Business Hours
The work schedule is Monday through Friday up to 8 hours per day. Travel Requirements
The Co-op student will report to the Greenville office and will be required to travel to project sites as needed to perform fieldwork. Travel will predominately be to job sites in the Upstate but may include projects in the Southeast region.
