Senior LiDAR and Survey Technician - Charleston, SC

Position Summary: As a Senior LiDAR and Survey Technician at ICE, you will play a pivotal role in the Survey Department designing, implementing, and managing our LiDAR program to support our infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for processing and analyzing data, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and conducting surveys as required.  Additionally, you will assist in traditional survey duties, ensuring precise data collection for our projects.
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • LiDAR Program Development - Assist in the development and implementation of a state-of-the-art LiDAR program tailored to meet the specific needs of infrastructure design projects.
  • LiDAR Data Acquisition - Plan and execute LiDAR data acquisition missions using advanced LiDAR equipment, ensuring high-quality data capture.
  • Data Processing - Process, calibrate, and analyze LiDAR data to extract actionable insights and create accurate digital terrain models (DTMs) and 3D point clouds.
  • Quality Control - Perform thorough quality control checks on LiDAR data to ensure data accuracy and completeness. • Integration with Design: Collaborate closely with engineers, surveyors, and GIS specialists to integrate LiDAR data into infrastructure design projects, facilitating informed decision-making.
  • LiDAR Equipment Maintenance - Ensure the proper maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of LiDAR equipment to maximize performance and longevity.
  • Surveying - Assist in field surveys as needed, adhering to state-specific standards and regulations.
  • Survey Documentation - Maintain detailed records of survey data, processes, and equipment maintenance.
  • Technology Advancement - Remain current with the latest LiDAR technologies and trends, recommending and implementing advancements to enhance our capabilities.
  • Safety Compliance - Adhere to all safety protocols and best practices when operating LiDAR equipment, conducting surveys, and working in the field.
  • Training and Development - Develop and maintain mobile LiDAR processing workflows and train technicians in mobile LiDAR processing and collection best practices.
Position Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a LiDAR technician, with a proven track record of handling LiDAR technology for infrastructure projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Survey experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of LiDAR data acquisition, processing, and quality control methodologies.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites when necessary; overnight travel, night and weekend work may be required.
  • A valid Driver's License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

  • Proficiency in LiDAR data processing software.
  • Experience with LiDAR data integration into GIS and CAD platforms.
  • Experience in Bentley software desired.
  • Strong understanding of surveying mathematics, principles of land surveying, and operational procedures.

  • 40-hour work week with office hours from 8:00am-5:00pm, allowing 1 unpaid hour for lunch each day. Occasional overtime may be necessary dependent on project deadlines, which is compensated according to company policy.
Physical Demands: While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.
 
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
