Under minimum supervision, the Indirect Buyer purchases plant materials and services including indirect materials, packaging supplies, equipment and spares. Utilizes Oracle, Jagger and other systems for determining indirect material needs. Sources vendors and responsible for cost savings projects. Manages materials inventory and develops/improves processes to achieve and maintain best-in-class targets. Able to handle complex processes with many vendors and materials. Manages entire Purchase Order cycle in accordance with Good Accounting Practices. Leads vendor meetings and prepares participants in advance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the Indirect Buyer include the following job duties. The responsibilities are not limited to these tasks.
- Source and manage Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) inventory such as oil, coolants, chemicals, burnishing soap, deburr media, and other consumable goods.
- Places and maintains purchase orders for indirect manufacturing materials. Works with suppliers to expedite or defer materials to meet production requirements and ensure on time deliveries.
- Facilitates problem resolutions with Accounts Payable related to purchase orders/ invoicing and pricing.
- Maintains accurate purchase order information in Oracle 11i based on planning demand.
- Manages Oracle PO life cycle after requisition is made until payment is made to vendor.
- Responsible for managing miscellaneous plant costs and acts as the single point of contact to manage Purchasing Card expenses.
- Identifies indirect material expense cost reduction projects and executes.
- Ability to negotiate with vendors to support cost reductions and other plant KPI’s
- Maintain purchase order and corrective action files.
- Keeps supervisor informed of status of projects or outstanding issues.
- Participates in departmental projects, as needed.
- Assists in other departments, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three years of purchasing experience in manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Material Planning, Indirect Buying or Purchasing, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to understand manufacturing engineering processes and to interpret blueprints.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Possess the ability to identify issues/problems and opportunities while maintaining effectiveness in a changing environment.
- Must possess good mathematical skills and the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Excellent negotiation skills preferred.
- Associates degree or higher preferred. Equal experience will be considered.
- Must be computer literate. Knowledge of MFGPro, Jagger or Oracle is preferred.
- Experience with Oracle 11i or R12 or similar ERP/MRP system experience.
- Advanced in Excel
