Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Lineman Operator to join our team. The Lineman Operator will be responsible for operating specialized equipment to assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead powerlines and associated equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy machinery in an electrical utility or construction environment and a commitment to adhering to safety protocols and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Operation: Operate specialized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioning machines, and cranes to assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead powerlines. Safely maneuver equipment to access work sites, position materials, and perform line work at various heights and locations.
  • Line Installation Support: Assist linemen with the installation of new overhead powerlines by transporting materials, setting poles, stringing wire, and installing hardware components as directed. Operate equipment to dig holes for pole installation, hoist equipment and materials into position, and provide support as needed to complete construction tasks.
  • Maintenance and Repair Assistance: Support linemen in performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on existing powerlines and equipment. Use equipment to transport tools, materials, and replacement components to work sites, and assist with tasks such as replacing insulators, repairing conductors, and replacing damaged hardware.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your coworkers. Follow established safety protocols while operating equipment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety harnesses, and fall protection devices.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with linemen, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate work activities, receive instructions, and provide updates on equipment status and job progress. Collaborate with coworkers to ensure that tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks on equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Check fluid levels, inspect hydraulic systems, lubricate moving parts, and make minor repairs as needed to keep equipment in good working condition. Report any issues or malfunctions to supervisors for further evaluation and repair.
  • Documentation: Complete equipment logs, inspection reports, and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and safety inspections to track performance and compliance.
  • Emergency Response: Assist with emergency response efforts, such as power outages or storm damage, by operating equipment to support line crews in restoring service safely and efficiently.
  • Training and Development: Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge of equipment operation, safety practices, and industry regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiency gains, and cost savings in equipment operation and maintenance activities. Provide feedback and suggestions for improvement to supervisors and management.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in equipment operation or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in an electrical utility, construction, or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in operating specialized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioning machines, and cranes safely and efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to equipment operation, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and fall protection devices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to follow instructions, communicate effectively with coworkers, and provide updates on job status and equipment performance.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) if required.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments, including remote locations and rugged terrain.
  • Holds a Journeyman Electrical Distribution Systems License, including Transmission Lines (EL-1J).

Work Environment:

  • This role is situated within an outdoor environment and regularly will be conducted in various weather conditions.
  • This is a full-time position with working hours scheduled during various hours.

While executing job responsibilities, the employee will be required to engage in long periods of standing, walking, sitting, manual manipulation of objects, tools, or controls, reaching, climbing stairs, and verbal communication. Additionally, the employee may occasionally need to lift or move office products and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds.

Travel:

  • Travel within a limited area is expected for this position.
