What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Writer position at Inland Empire Health Plans?
Position Summary/Position
Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Communications Writer is responsible for providing internal and external communication services that target IEHP members, providers, employees, community partners, healthcare agencies and more. The Communications Writer will provide strategic support for IEHP’s communications and public relations initiatives and is also responsible for project management from the first stage of creative development to project completion. To develop all materials requested, the Communications Writer will work with Graphic Designers, Bilingual Communications Writers, Communications Coordinators, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure all projects are completed appropriately and delivered on time. Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
1. Work with IEHP management and creative team to develop various internal and external communication messages and strategies.
2. Consult with the appropriate IEHP staff to develop the purpose, strategy, target audience, style and length of the written materials/copy. Write and subsequently edit IEHP materials.
3. Develop copy for all IEHP department materials for various IEHP programs and products. Materials would include, but not limited to, brochures, newsletters, booklets, letters, phone scripts, flyers, advertising collateral, TV and radio scripts, copy for promotional items and other materials as requested.
4. Evaluate information on all IEHP product lines, public relations, consumer surveys and other data to formulate a communications strategy that is creative and aligns with IEHP’s brand.
5. Work with the Bilingual Communications Writer(s) and Graphic Designers to get all materials translated and designed.
6. Update projects in the online project management tool and ensure all timelines and deliverables are met.
7. Respond to program changes driven by regulatory requirements. Coordinate the review, modification, and reproduction of any IEHP material impacted by such changes. Regularly update, modify, and reproduce any IEHP printed and online materials that require changes as a result of program changes and/or the regulatory agencies’ review.
8. Ensure IEHP material complies with the reading level required by the regulatory agencies. Run a health literacy assessment (HLA) on all member materials to obtain a 6th grade reading level and keep a record of the assessment.
9. Ensure all IEHP member materials receive regulatory approval before final production and dissemination. Supervisory Responsibilities Leading: Self Experience Qualifications
Three to five (3-5) years of professional writing experience. Preferred Experience
Professional writing experience preferably in healthcare. Education Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Writing, Public Relations, or related field from an accredited institution required. Preferred Education
Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Writing, Public Relations, or related field from an accredited institution preferred. Drivers License Required No Knowledge Requirement
Strong grasp of English language and grammar, AP style, and writing strategy. Skills Requirement
Proofreading and editing skills required, as well as Microsoft Word and keyboarding. Knowledge of design software preferred but not required. Abilities Requirement
