Seeking a Surgical First Assistant to support the Mount Vernon Main Operating Room. The Inova Mount Vernon Operating Room consists of 8 ORs serving Orthopedics communities- Total Joints, Ankles, and Shoulders; Sports Medicine; Podiatry; General- Laparoscopic and Open; Urology; Plastics, and ENT. Case volumes average 20 cases per day. The OR functions 24/7 with the support of all teams on off-shifts and holidays. It is a fast-paced environment that focuses on strong teamwork and patient safety. The role will support the OR full-time Monday- Friday (4/10s or 5/8s)
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides safe therapeutic care by collaborating with surgeons and the health care team to perform a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient. Provides an individual, patient-centered approach to patients with a wide range of diagnoses.
- Must have acquired the knowledge, skills, and judgment specific to clinical practice.
- Teamwork: communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Maintain strong and open communication skills.
- Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines
- Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource preceptor and mentor
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical First Assistant or two years of Surgical Technologist experience
- Education and Licensure: Must be licensed as a Surgical Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of hire
- Certification: BLS via American Heart Association
- Preferred experience: Ortho, Robotics, and Plastics
- A current credential as a surgical assistant or surgical first assistant issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), the National Commission for Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA), or their successors
