Responsibilities:
Prepares and reviews Personal and Entity tax returns/work files for completeness, accuracy and compliance; communicates with and trains staff on areas needing improvement.
Assumes the responsibility for the smooth flow of tax returns.
Monitors tax deadlines to ensure that returns are prepared on a timely basis; communicates with partners during the preparation process to identify any tax issues needing addressing and to pull jobs so that they reach the technical review stage timely.
Monitors and analyzes all incoming tax notices and drafts responses.
Manages workloads and work products of other tax staff members; delegates tax work to staff.
Oversees tax, tax planning and fixed asset software to ensure defaults are properly set; disseminates software enhancements to staff.
Acts as key client contact person for select engagements.
Contributes to the client service team by producing quality work with quick turnaround and attentive service.
Trains accountants and interns to prepare effective responses to tax notices and reviews for accuracy.
Performs tax research and helps train staff to do the same, schedules annual tax research training session for all tax staff.
Informs clients (or staff member) of tax options available and possible outcomes through clear and concise memos, emails or letters.
Seeks and communicates efficiencies in producing quality work products.
Initiates new work for existing clients.
Stays current on new legislation and educates staff and clients.
Supervises extension process to ensure accurate and timely preparation.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Accounting w/150 credit hours and CPA eligibility preferred. Managers normally have a minimum of 6 years’ experience as an accountant working within public accounting (or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the firm). Master’s degree in Tax is a plus.
Qualified candidates will have experience with all different entity types. Ideal tax experience servicing complex individuals / 1040 returns and small business clients. A minimum of three years senior/supervisory capacity is required for a Mgr level position. Candidates must be proactive in tax planning ideas/processes. A proven record of building sustainable client relationships. Have a working knowledge of Paperless systems such as GoFileRoom and tax software such as ProSystems or CaseWare. Have a professional demeanor with excellent communication skills. Enjoy working with people and understand the importance of nurturing and building the firm's clientele. Be ethical, conscientious, detail oriented, and well organized.
In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the starting base pay range for this position is $87,000 - $110,000 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position such as eligibility to receive discretionary spot bonus incentives. This range is a reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and/or education and geographic location. It is not typical for a candidate to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the capabilities and experience of the candidate. Incentives, if any, depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and firm performance.
Manager Bonus Program: Managers are eligible for a discretionary MBO based annual bonus. The program comprises of having proven accomplishments in established areas: Client Service, People and Growth.
