Job Description Summary :
The Chair of the Department of Osteopathic Principles and Practices (Chair) at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) will provide leadership and vision to the department and institution with osteopathic medical education and the recruitment of new faculty.
The Chair is responsible for the effective management of the department’s academic, administrative and budgetary responsibilities.
The Chair will provide leadership for the faculty as they deliver the curriculum and will work to assure faculty excellence through recruitment, faculty development, and evaluation of faculty for recommendation for promotion and tenure to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean.
The Chair will also participate in the curricular duties of the OPP faculty in training / teaching all four years of osteopathic medical students.
Academic responsibilities may include preparing and delivering lectures, instruction in OPP labs, development of test questions, and small-group activities.
OMM clinical practice occurs at the Robert C. Byrd Clinic adjacent to the school campus and may include precepting OMM rotation students and ONMM resident clinic.
Research or scholarly activity opportunities are available. The Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP) Department Chair reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Dean.
This is a full-time administrative position with faculty appointment. This position is exempt from FLSA regulations concerning overtime.
There is an excellent state benefits package including relocation. Salary and faculty rank is commensurate with education and experience.
Not all activities of this position occur within the confines of an 8 : 00-4 : 30 schedule and may require evening and weekend scheduling as needed.
The weekly schedule for this position will be established between the supervisor and the employee and approved given the needs of the department and the institution.
This position is not eligible for telework and must be in-person on the WVSOM Campus. This position has been designated as Essential.
This means that when WVSOM is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover and continue operations at WVSOM.

Duties and Responsibilities :
This includes the current educational modules as well as the osteopathic elements of history, philosophy, research, neuromusculoskeletal examination, diagnosis and approach to comprehensive patient care inclusive of musculoskeletal and systemic disease.
This includes participation in future standard-setting projects by the ECOP, NBOME and other organizations which may include the glossary of osteopathic terminology, exam item development and COMLEX standard setting and OMM specific clinical assessments.
