The UCLA Food Studies minor unit is seeking a lecturer for Spring 2024 (Academic Year 2023-24) to teach an upper division undergraduate course in the Food Studies program.
Given the interdisciplinary and evolving nature of the field, Food Studies at UCLA is looking for our instructors to represent multiple perspectives, and we encourage applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds to apply.
The Food Studies 142 course will introduce students to cellular agriculture as it relates to generating ex vivo edible animal proteins of meat, fish, dairy, and other products from cells.
Students will explore food production methods and impacts to the environment. Other topics may include human health, conventional animal agriculture and food cultivation, developing food technologies and methods, food safety regulations, and socio-cultural frameworks.
UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university.
Required Qualifications :
- An earned PhD degree from an accredited university
- College-level teaching experience
- Knowledge and training in the field of food studies, sustainability, food science, cellular agriculture, or related fields
Preferred Qualifications :
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of delivering high-quality, innovative instruction to a diverse student body
- Evidence of creating safe, collaborative and inclusive learning spaces
