What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Services Engineer position at Insight Global?
The Resident Technician will be assigned to a specific customer site. They will support the addition of new pulp and paper machines to the customer site and help to troubleshoot, maintain, and fix any issues with this new equipment.
Must Haves
- High school diploma with 5 years of relative experience with mechanical and/or electrical knowledge with hands on troubleshooting and maintenance experience
- OR Associates/bachelor's degree in field relating to instrumentation & control, electrical or electronics engineering, instrumentation or process control with 1 years of troubleshooting industrial equipment with controls/networking communication experience
- OR military experience with Electrical or Electronics knowledge and ability to read diagrams, blueprints, and troubleshoot electrical and electronics equipment/components
- Candidates must be comfortable using electrical test equipment such as voltmeters or multi-meters safely as well as other basic hand tools
- Hands on troubleshooting and/or Mechanical aptitude/knowledge
- Must be comfortable working in a "on-call" rotating schedule with other member of the site team ("on-call hours will be compensated for)

Day to Day:
- The Resident Field Service Technician will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of pulp-and-paper quality control products at customer facility. Technician will be supporting the customer to install brand new equipment at customer site as well as maintain and troubleshoot said equipment when needed. This includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance, testing and troubleshooting proprietary customer hardware and software, as well as assisting with any projects, upgrades, new installations, and advanced services for the technician’s assigned customer or region. This individual will be part of a small site team to provide service for customer's pulp-and-paper quality control solutions.
Technician Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the quality control systems at their assigned site.
- Preventative maintenance and communication with the customer are key to success in this role.
- This individual must be able to adapt to varying conditions at customer facilities while operating within estimated resources and ensuring quality. This requires basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and computer systems for resolving potentially complex technical issues to eliminate or minimize adverse impact, ensure quality and operate within budget.
- Requires ability to adjust to revised priorities and unforeseen problems at customer facilities while meeting tight schedules. Errors typically result in significant loss of time and rework, inefficient use of resources, and adversely affect customer relations. Field Service Technicians often work nonstandard schedules including on-call at off-site locations with exposure to harsh environmental conditions typical for industrial facilities.
