Overview

The Senior Director, HR Business Partner will operate as a strategic partner for leaders in our Gene Therapy team, primarily based in San Diego, California.  This is a newly created role, working closely across the Gene Therapy team and NJ HR team to diagnose and implement right-size solutions and programs in San Diego. They will build and sustain relationships with all levels of employees to effectively influence decision-making, leading to employee engagement and retention.  Key areas of input and guidance include talent management and development, change management, workforce planning, organizational development and design, performance management, and employee relations.  In the next few years, the team will be in heavy growth mode, requiring a heightened partnership with Talent Acquisition to ensure the right talent is identified and onboarded. The ideal candidate for this role will be able to toggle between strategy and execution, comfortable digging in to help wherever they are needed, while providing guidance and ideas that will feed the long-term vision of the team and ultimately the organization.

Responsibilities

Additional representative responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following: 

  • Serve a key partner for leadership team members, participating in business discussions to assess business needs, acting as a sounding board, and recommending actions to contribute to the team’s success
  • Collaborate with leadership to evaluate and make recommendations for team structure, roles, and job responsibilities
  • Act as lead HR Business Partner for Research and Manufacturing facilities, with onsite presence needed to support majoritively in-person team (3-4 days per week)
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures to ensure internal practices develop, engage, and retain employees, considering local business and team needs
  • Coach, guide, and influence leaders to drive cultural change and employee engagement; leverages data when formulating recommendations and implements local programs in conjunction with leadership
  • Coach leaders through employee relations issues, ensuring both a fair and consistent process while balancing employee accountability and business need
  • Partner with internal HR team members to ensure the pull-through of programs and the hiring/onboarding of new employees; look for opportunities to ensure organizational-wide consistency with HR initiatives; develop local HR programs and initiatives, in-line with functional needs
  • Identify, recommend, and lead client engagements and training programs
  • Facilitate key meetings, focus groups and other discussions to evaluate business need for future employee programs, tools, and resources
  • Create new tools and resources to support identified business need and future organizational direction
  • Participate in organizational HR projects, serving as a voice of the gene therapy team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required – concentration in Human Resources Management or Organizational Development a plus
  • Minimum 12 years of Human Resources experience required
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Pharmaceutical/Biotech environment required
    • Experience working with Research & Development clients highly preferred
  • Experience working with employees in California, with an understanding of local, state, and federal employment law practices
  • Understanding and experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing environment a plus
  • Prior experience successfully navigating a fast-paced, changing environment – experience in a start-up environment a plus
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal awareness to effectively build and sustain strong partnerships with trust and credibility
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all employees, including the Executive team, at all levels both internally and externally
  • Effective project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities at once
  • Excellent reasoning, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and conciseness
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Travel Requirements

Domestic travel may be required (~15%)

Salary Range

Insmed takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees. The base salary range for this job is from $200,000.00 to $280,000.00 per year
