Our client is focused on saving the world’s coral reefs. They work at local, regional, and global levels to keep coral reefs healthy, so they can survive for generations to come. As one of the largest international NGOs focused exclusively on coral reefs, our client has used cutting-edge science and community engagement for nearly 30 years to reduce direct threats to reefs and to promote scalable and effective solutions for their protection.

Our client’s Development and Marketing Team comprises a Development Director, Associate Marketing Director, Content Marketing Manager, Major Gifts Officer, Development Coordinator, Development Operations Coordinator, and the new Grants Manager. They are a nimble, highly organized, and impactful team focused on raising individual, institutional, and corporate revenue, driving awareness of their mission, and elevating the organization into a new realm of brand recognition.

As the Grants Manager, you will be responsible for pursuing aggressive revenue goals (~$2M annually) to support the organization's programs by managing and growing a portfolio of foundations, government and international aid agencies, and corporate foundations. Your responsibilities will include cultivating and managing relationships with institutional funders; leading and preparing program staff for meetings with funders; writing grant proposals; preparing and submitting all necessary grant reports, including deliverables and financial reporting; and maintaining complex pipeline management systems and processes. In this mid-level role, you regularly engage with programmatic staff and senior leadership around grant planning, deliverables, and relationship management.

To be successful, you should have:

·        Bachelor's degree in a related field

·        Superior writing and editing skills

·        5 years’ experience in non-profit development with a focus on institutional fundraising

·        Demonstrated success in portfolio management and proposal writing for funding opportunities ($100K )

·        Proven success in building relationships and cultivating institutional donor contacts

·        Proficiency in Smartsheet, Salesforce, donor research software, and the Microsoft Office suite

·        Expert communicator with staff, volunteers, and funder representatives

·        Experience in leading program staff to develop an idea into a concrete proposal for funding, including a clear statement of need, program goals and outcomes, evaluation methods, and budgets

·        Ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines with professionalism and grace

·        Commitment to and familiarity with environmental conservation, particularly around oceans

·        A good sense of humor, strong interpersonal skills, and a team-player mentality

·        Adept in collaborating across cultures and geographies and communicating across departments

Preferred Qualifications

·        Spanish language skills (conversational and written)

·        Specific experience working with coral reef and/or marine conservation funders

·        Specific experience working with funders in Hawaii, Honduras, and Mexico

·        Experience with scientific/technical proposals and reports

·        Experience managing direct reports

·        Innovative, ambitious, motivated, and passionate about saving the world’s coral reefs

Your responsibilities as the Grant Manager will include:

·        Manage a portfolio of ~60-75 institutional funders with an annual fundraising goal of ~$2 Million

·        Cultivate institutional funder contacts, providing consistent stewardship, leading regular update meetings, and aligning programmatic work with funder priorities by framing proposals

·        Proactively pursue new opportunities with institutional funders to help grow portfolio annually

·        Support project management for the development and program teams to ensure successful management and stewardship of externally funded projects

·        Manage organization-wide processes for institutional funding opportunities, including developing narrative and budget proposals and reports and tracking deliverables

·        Maintain systems for tracking and guiding institutional relationships held by senior staff members

·        Effectively customize and utilize Smartsheet and Salesforce, and other grant prospecting and tracking tools for relationship management and to monitor grant deliverables and cultivation opportunities

·        Work closely with program staff on the development of new proposals and reports, including content and prioritization, writing narrative, and creating budgets

·        Work with the Finance team to ensure a high level of communication and accurate financial reporting on grant project budgets and the institutional portfolio as a whole
