Summary/Objective
The Housekeeper’s duties and responsibilities include performing the day-to-day activities of maintaining the Community. Tasks are assigned typically by the Environmental Services Director, in accordance with federal, state and local standards as well as the guidelines and regulations of the Community. The Housekeeper should ensure that the Community is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner for residents and Associates.
Essential Functions
- Stocks carts with proper type and quantity of materials and equipment
- Assures that work assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored during work periods, as well as before leaving the area for breaks, meals and the end of the workday
- Discards waste and trash into proper containers and relines receptacles with plastic liners
- Cleans and sanitizes public restrooms
- Picks up trash in front and back parking lots
- Turns in and/or reports all lost and found items to supervisor
- Assists others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc. as directed or requested
- Reports inventory of housekeeping supplies
- Keeps housekeeping equipment tidy
- Performs terminal cleaning procedures
- Assists with completion of appropriate forms and reports
- Performs emergency procedures such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), if required
- Recognizes and responds to the housekeeping needs of residents
- Performs general Community housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing, waxing, etc.
- Recognizes and responds to containments and potentially infectious wastes and handles according to appropriate guidelines
- Follows Community guidelines relative to emergency procedures especially fire prevention and the use of fire extinguishers
- Washes, dries, and folds resident laundry, linens, and other Community items as instructed by supervisor
- Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
Work Environment
Works in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and is physically, physiologically and psychologically innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at any particular time. On occasion, there may be exposure to outdoor spaces, which will, by their nature, have variances in air quality, temperature, walking surfaces, lighting, and other physical aspects. Because the essential functions of the job may require general involvement in a health care facility, including but not limited to exposure to AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses involving Risk Classification Categories 2 and 3, environmental and safety conditions will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position, a person will have the ability to work in this type of environment without posing a direct threat to self or others.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Frequent body movements include, lifting, moving, transferring, bending, stooping, squatting and reaching. Able to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, unassisted, with twisting and turning of the torso, and stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
Certifications, Licenses, Education and Experience and other Special Requirements
A High School Diploma or equivalency is preferred; completion of a minimum of 10th grade is required. A minimum of one year with Housekeeping experience required, preferably in a senior living environment.
