Job Summary: The Program Coordinator II is responsible for the educational development and advancement of participating individuals (K-12, &/or learners of all ages and backgrounds) to serve the mission of IALR. The PCII will have the opportunity to continue the development of the Wonder Community of Lifelong Learning, IALRs signature effort to support a culture of learning. In addition, the PCII will serve as part of a dynamic team that operates one of the largest AmeriCorps programs in Virginia.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops, coordinates, markets, and evaluates current and future Wonder Community workshops and seminars on various topics.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the Dan River Year AmeriCorps program by supporting AmeriCorps members enrolled to tutor students across three counties and two cities; oversees aspects of recruitment, time sheet approval, member training and professional development, and team meetings.
  • Oversees community relations by participating in local and regional councils, coalitions, and committees that help propel STEM education, skill-building, and action plans for community growth; develop strategies to build partnerships that will benefit clients and the community.
  • Coordinates and assists with special events that are hosted by the Advanced Learning Department, or other IALR stakeholders, such as summer camps, annual summits, fund-raising campaigns, family STEM nights, and new initiatives.
  • Researches, analyzes and writes grants for AmeriCorps projects and Wonder Community initiatives including but not limited to providing narrative on need and programmatic details, submitting appropriate programmatic reports, developing and monitoring budgets, and establishing guidelines as requested by grant-making institutions.
  • Develops and implements programs to oversee, schedule, and teach computer training workshops for individuals interested in building technology literacy skills, or organizations whose staff need training on a variety of computer topics; identify and secure contractors for instructional needs.
  • Evaluates and/or completes reports for all programs such as grant management reports, financial reports, and feedback surveys to generate strategies and plans for improvement or expansion.
  • Attends professional development opportunities to increase skills and abilities to exceptionally perform job duties, increase the number of tasks that be completed, and collaborate effectively with constituents
  • Give public presentations on programmatic responsibilities, representing IALR and the Advanced Learning division.
  • Works collaboratively across all divisions to support departmental functions and IALRs strategic plan.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products with strong computer literacy skills
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local funding resources preferred
  • Strong organizational skills required to successfully manage multiple tasks
  • Current and relevant knowledge of regional needs and available resources
  • Strong communication skills, with experience in public speaking
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; oral and written
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, partner agencies and the public
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently as well as work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be able to travel throughout Virginia as well as occasional out-of-state trips

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Education, or related field;
  • Three or more years professional responsibility for and experience with administration of education programs and informal learning opportunities;
  • Grant development and administration, and budget management experience preferred;
  • Experience with the evaluation of programs to identify areas for expansion, appropriate solutions or termination preferred;
  • Experience in logistical administration of education programs and activities preferred
  • Experience in promoting and marketing educational programs preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sits for long periods of time while completing duties
  • Must be able to move freely between facilities
  • Light physical work may be required
  • Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard
  • May lift up to 10 pounds on a regular basis

Hours: IALR hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Work hours outside of normal IALR operating hours will be required and are based on department needs.
