SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The provost oversees academic programs, including graduate programs, the college curriculum, faculty appointments, and other academically related areas including research centers. The position provides visionary leadership to promote and foster excellence in all aspects of the college’s mission. This includes an unwavering commitment to increasing access to an excellent higher education for Indigenous students.
In addition, the provost oversees IAIA’s Student Services Division, including admissions, recruitment, retention, the residential program, counseling, and the tracking of student success. The position provides senior leadership with timely and accurate enrollment, retention, and data analysis. The position ensures that the Student Services Division personnel’s experience, knowledge, expertise, and talent are brought together to support the success of IAIA students.
· As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the provost participates in the executive leadership of the college.
· Provides leadership on all matters related to the Academic and Student Services Divisions.
· Oversees matters relating to the academic and student services staffing and programming.
· Oversees the academic and student services program review process to promote continuous improvement.
· Analyzes the resources needed to fulfill the academic and student programming obligations to the College, including development of cost and benefit analyses and long-term forecasts of academic and student support programming demands and of student population and career trends.
· Develops and manages long-term strategies for optimizing the return on financial resources for the academic and student services division.
· Ensures adherence to the academic and student services divisions’ budgets.
· Complies with all IAIA policies.
· Ensures an active and expanding dialogue with external constituencies by encouraging partnerships and advocacy on behalf of the college.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Demonstrated experience, skills, and knowledge in strategically leading and directing multiple academic and student services programs.
· Experience in monitoring expenditures compared to budgets, managing grants, assessing fiscal trends, and taking needed corrective action to assure budgetary integrity.
· Experience with inclusive and collaborative leadership in serving Indigenous student populations.
· Experience with employee recruitment and development activities for Academic and Student Services Divisions.
· Experience in developing and implementing academic and student services planning processes.
· Experience in leading and managing accreditation processes.
· Demonstrated experience in effectively hiring, leading, developing, motivating, and managing large and complex divisions.
· Ability to interact constructively with local, regional, national, and tribal organizations.
· Ability to prepare presentations and communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
· Ability to prepare and present senior-level presentations to a wide-range of key stakeholders.
· Ability to interact and work successfully with faculty, staff students, parents, and alumni as related to job responsibilities.
· Ability to resolve challenges in a creative and constructive manner.
· Ability to affect strategic change at the divisional- and organizational-levels.
· Ability to work independently, to begin projects proactively (or as assigned), and to bring projects (or assignments) to conclusion on a timely and accurate basis.
· Understanding and sensitivity of American Indian cultures.
Requirements
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
The incumbent must have a terminal degree, either a doctorate or MFA, and at least five years of experience managing, evaluating, and developing multiple programs with a high degree complexity and difficulty.
PREFERRED
Ten years of administrative experience in positions with increasing levels of responsibility and complexity in fine arts colleges serving primarily Indigenous students.
