Overview
i3 is seeking a creative and driven professional with a passion for solving real world issues on a cross-functional, fast paced team. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with end users to properly design the network for very specific software functionality needed.
As the Network Engineer your role is to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support the Software, Simulation, Systems Engineering & Integration (S3I) Directorate, and the Combat Capabilities Development Command program. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all networked software associated operating systems. The Network Engineer will apply communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolves issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
- Work with upstream and downstream entities to create solutions to issues
Acquisition & Deployment
- Designs and defines network architecture for new or existing computer systems.
- Performs complex network development and design work.
- Participates in the upgrading of operating systems and design of network enhancements.
- Provides input for documentation on new or existing networks.
- Develops and conducts tests to ensure networks meet documented user requirements.
Operational Management
- Be available (on Call) after hours in case of network emergencies. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves network problems.
- Provides network/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.
- Determines network specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
- May provide guidance and leadership to less-experienced systems engineers.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
- Comprehensive knowledge of network engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of the associated hardware, software, and equipment.
- Participates in special projects as assigned.
- This position may be required to complete short-term deployments supporting directorate exercises.
- Designs and recommends security policies and procedures.
- Monitors, evaluates, and maintains networks/systems according to DoD and industry security best practices.
- Reviews network/system configurations to ensure compliance with security requirements.
- Provide network/system vulnerability scanning via HBSS and ACAS.
- Investigates security violations and recommends solutions.
- Performs handling/tracking of COMSEC material.
- Provides reports to internal and external customers in response to queries and requests.
- Gives recommendations for product upgrades, patches, and general security measures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and (4) years of relevant experience or (8) years of relevant experience with a HS diploma required.
- Must have ability to obtain and maintain the CCNA certification.
- Have a working knowledge of VISIO and the ability to create/update network diagrams.
- Must be DoD 8140.03 compliant or could become certified within thirty (30) days of employment and be eligible for IAT level II access upon hire for positions with elevated privileges within six months of hire. Additional specific certifications may be required, depending on job assignment.
- Have a working knowledge of layer 3 protocols. i.e. OSPF, EIGRP
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot Multicast.
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot DMVPN and GRE tunnel.
- Ability to configure, setup, and maintain a spine and leaf architecture
- Experience with ISE (Identity Services Engine) rule sets.
- Knowledge and experience with current Cisco IOS software and hardware feature.
- Highly organized with strong ability to prioritize work and work autonomously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Great attention to detail and presentation.
- Results driven, highly efficient, energetic and highly motivated.
- Must possess a high degree of intelligence, competence, maturity, adaptability, resilience, integrity and initiative.
- The work is typically performed at client site locations, which requires proper safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
