InterCommunity, Inc is a FQHC LA (Federally Qualified Health Center Look Alike). Our health center provides same-day primary care services to every member of the community, regardless of life situation or ability to pay. We also provide a wide array of behavioral health services. Our community Health Care Centers are located at 281 Main St. East Hartford, 16 Coventry St. Hartford and 828 Sullivan Ave., South Windsor. InterCommunity’s Addiction Services offers a similarly wide range of substance use treatment and recovery-supportive services, with many sites in the Hartford area. We provide services across the spectrum of care, including primary care, residential detoxification and substance use treatment, multiple levels of residential care, outpatient substance use disorder and mental health services for adults and children, intensive outpatient programs, employment and community support, mobile crisis evaluations, judicial support services and social rehabilitation.

Summary: Shift Differential opportunity between an extra $2-$3 an hour. 


An experienced counselor who possesses knowledge about substance abuse treatment. Trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques used to address issues, including depression, addiction and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, problems with self-esteem, and grief. Counselor’s work with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat client. Works independently with weekly supervision, is capable of directing and motivation clients toward abstinence and sobriety through specific avenues of treatment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Appropriately assesses client treatment needs and provides treatment recommendations. 
  • Provides individual and group counseling using evidence-based techniques under the supervision of a licensed therapist. 
  • Coordinates treatment with other providers to ensure best client care.
  • Ensures appropriate aftercare plan for all assigned clients. 
  • Provides training and orientation to all new clinicians and interns.
  • Effectively manages crisis situations on the unit.
  • Documents in the clinical record according to requirements of the regulatory agencies. 
  • Follows the utilization review process. 
  • May be required to transport clients in personal or Agency vehicle
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education &/Or Experience:

Master’s Degree in Human Services Field, Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field. One year post graduate experience in counseling substance abusers or mental health clients. Knowledge of community resources available to substance abusers. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting. Experience in individual, group and family therapy. Knowledge of the 12 Step Program.
