Job Summary  

InterDigital is seeking a highly-motivated engineer to work within our wireless technology research and development team to help design, prototype, and implement the emerging “Living” Mobile Network (5G and beyond), in which intelligent networks self-optimize to deliver services to users and devices that are tailored to content, context, and connectivity. The selected candidate will design, simulate, and provide proof of concept for novel systems that InterDigital is creating to drive 5G and beyond wireless networking, including: Radio links at higher frequency ranges, heterogeneous network deployments in licensed and unlicensed spectrum; detailed system studies, waveform design and protocol development to support beyond 5G networks; system architecture development, system design, generation of technical reports, patents and disclosures, publications etc.  

Responsibilities   

  • Carry out cutting-edge research in waveform design, physical layer and/or system-level design, algorithms and protocols for next generation mobile communications systems  
  • Research fundamentals in communication theory and digital signal processing  
  • Develop and evaluate wireless protocol designs   
  • Document and present the novel wireless technologies and implementations in various forms, such as standards contributions, conference and journal publications, technical white papers, patent applications, etc.  
  • Link level and system level simulators using MATLAB, C/C , Shell scripts, Python  
  • PHY/System design for platform prototyping efforts, including implementation support, e.g. by test vector generation and interfacing with the implementation team for test vector verification.    

Qualifications  

  • Master's in Electrical Engineering or related field (Doctorate preferred)  
  • Position requires 4 or more years of wireless communication systems experience, and an MMSE or higher degree with an emphasis on wireless communications experience.  
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, and ability to work with diverse groups across functional boundaries. Very strong verbal and written communication skills  
  • Understanding of 3GPP specifications (especially with RAN1 and RAN2, for 3GPP NR) and/or IEEE 802.11 specifications   
    • Modulation and coding techniques  
    • Advanced waveform designs  
    • PHY and MAC layer design   
  • Experience with AI/ML techniques is a plus  
  • Dedicated, result oriented professional with an attitude for getting the job done  
  • Willing to take challenges in a fast paced and high-pressure environment  
  • Experience in link level (L1/PHY) and/or system level (L1/PHY, L2/MAC) simulations and proficient with MATLAB and C, C is an advantage  
  • Proven record of technical contributions which may be relevant experience, education, publications, and/or patents.  
  • Ability to thrive in an innovative, dynamic, and research-oriented work environment  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills
