The Interfaith Food Pantry Network (IFPN) – is the largest andmost relied upon resource for emergency and supplemental food among Morris County residents in need. IFPN employs innovative approaches to hunger and food insecurity that improve the health and well-being of individuals and families by providing access to nutritious food, education, and related resources. The IFPN operates food pantries and partners with other agencies across the County to serve residents in need, to foster a culture of volunteerism, and educate the public about the issues surrounding food insecurity. In 2021, the IFPN distributed 1.6 million pounds of food during nearly 28,000 household visits to their food pantries and Mobile Network Partners.
General Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Interfaith Food Pantry Network’s full-time Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for leading the organization’s Volunteer Program, ensuring that operations are adequately staffed and that all volunteers have a positive, and rewarding experience. Our tagline, “neighbors helping neighbors” reflects the premise that our organization’s sustainability is built on community involvement. In 2021, we averaged 198 “staff” volunteers each month, and hosted 52 group visits from schools, houses of worship and corporations.
The ideal candidate will be an independent self-starter, and be able to collaborate across departments – programs, operations and development – to coordinate organizational needs, volunteer interests and opportunities for development
Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining, implementing, and developing as needed, a consistent and effective volunteer program in support of IFPN’s mission and vision
- Interfacing with all public inquiries regarding volunteer opportunities
- Building strong and effective partnerships with volunteers and supporters and help foster a culture of “neighbors helping neighbors”
- Providing ongoing attention to the recruitment, retention, and recognition of our volunteers
- Responsibility for the intake process by which volunteers become involved from application to placement. Overseeing all background checks, filing, and following up with prospective volunteers
- Liaising with staff to maintain active list of all open volunteer openings
- Addressing volunteer questions/concerns
- Maintaining volunteer database (Access), reporting and metrics
- Hosting group visits, preparing acknowledgments, collecting photos for publicity and social media purposes
- Coordinating volunteer recognition programs and events
- Working with Development Director to strategically place individual and corporate volunteers, and with Education Coordinator to develop appropriate activities for school/youth groups
- Assisting with outreach events
- Occasional nights, weekends and attendance at events required
- This position requires the physical handling of food and can sometimes require long periods of standing and some lifting.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or at least two years’ experience in a similar role in a non-profit setting. Skilled candidates with HR experience from a for-profit company will also be considered.

- Proficiency in MS Office a must (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, etc.) and database management (Access and Salesforce) a plus.
