Job Overview: IRC’s Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) is a subsidiary of the International Rescue Committee and a non-profit financial institution that offers accessible, small-dollar consumer and microenterprise loans primarily to refugees, immigrants and other traditionally financially-excluded communities. CEO makes its loans through partnerships with trusted community-based organizations that offer financial education and other asset-building services.

Reporting to and working in partnership with the Executive Director, the Director of Development and External Relations will develop and lead execution of CEO’s sustainability plan. A new position in the organization, the Director will help define CEO’s brand, identity and client and public-facing image. The position will formalize CEO’s development function from the ground floor and play a key role in defining the organization’s trajectory. The position will supervise and collaborate closely with CEO’s Communications Coordinator and have oversight over CEO’s marketing, web and digital communication channels.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute CEO’s annual fundraising plan – covering both operating and capitalization resources; draft grant proposals, and concept notes, compile pitch decks, host webinars, events etc to support the fundraising plan or in response to specific opportunities
• Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors, investors, foundations, and other key stakeholders; create and execute a strategy for building a sustained base of annual individual donors
• Support CEO’s capital raises – develop and implement strategies to help CEO meet its capitalization requirements; plan and host one-off or recurring events for prospective investors, implement a cycle of engagement to deepen relationships and partnerships
• Work directly with CEO’s Board of Directors to establish an endowment to support CEO’s long-term sustainability and impact;
• Refine CEO’s communications strategy, plan & key messages; sharpen CEO’s brand identity, recognition and engagement with current or prospective borrowers, implementing partners, investors, donors and other key stakeholders through direct marketing, earned media, and other similar efforts
• Oversee organization of special events, webinars, newsletters, quarterly investor updates and other stakeholder engagement functions; represent CEO at externally at conferences, convenings, etc.
• Collaborate closely with the IRC project and fundraising teams to ensure robust coordination on common projects and/or donors

Job Requirements:

• BA, MS, MA or MBA in related field preferred
• 8 years of professional experience in non-profit fundraising and development with demonstrated experience securing philanthropic commitments from corporate and private sources; candidates with experience in the CDFI industry and/or raising impact investments preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with communication planning, stakeholder engagement cycles and web and social media engagement.
• Must have exceptional ability to communicate in writing, to create compelling narratives and for storytelling; must possess the ability to craft concise, compelling copy across a variety of channels tailored for key audiences.
• Prior grant writing and institutional fund-raising required, with preference for experience supporting financial inclusion, asset-building, or workforce programming or for refugee and immigrant-focused efforts.
• Must have strong presentation and public speaking ability; prior experience speaking at conferences, on panels, leading webinars or trainings and compiling outlines & collateral for the same.
• Prefer prior experience in raising funds or capital for non-profit lending institutions, CDFIs, loan funds, and other similar alternative financial institutions; prior experience with raising funds for an endowment a strong plus.
• Graphic design or data visualization skills a plus.
• Computer skills:  Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT) required; experience with other financial or development-related software strongly preferred

Working Environment:  Standard work environment; the majority of the workday at a computer terminal. The position requires periodic travel for conferences or meetings (approx. 5% time). This is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the U.S.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirement.
