Location: Denver, CO USA BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. Founded in 1933, the IRC is at work today in more than 40 countries and in 24 U.S. cities. The IRC’s U.S. Programs (USP) department creates opportunities for refugees and other vulnerable migrants to survive and thrive in America. USP serves more than 40,000 individuals each year, including thousands of newly arrived refugees, through a diverse portfolio of programs aimed at achieving outcomes in five impact areas: Health, Safety, Economic Wellbeing, Education, and Power. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors and local volunteers to help refugees, asylees and those with Special Immigrant Visas translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. In Denver and other offices across the country, the IRC helps refugees and asylees to rebuild their lives through services and programs that assist with initial resettlement through longer-term integration. Presently, these services case management, employment services, psychosocial support, family stabilization, health coordination, health insurance literacy, family reunification and programs for children and youth. Beginning in April 2019, the Denver office is also building a legal services program to provide pro bono legal representation to survivors of torture, as well as direct legal services for family-based immigration. INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW: The IRC is a lead agency responding to the Afghan evacuation and will be serving thousands of Afghan paroees in the US this year through the Afghan Placement & Assitance (APA) program. Under APA, the IRC is committed to ensuring all Afghan parolees have accesss to legal services to identify potential legal pathways to remain in the United States lawfully. This internship will support access to legal services for Afghan parolees through our Afghan Legal Resource Center. COMMITMENT: At least 15 hours per week during business hours, 4 month minimum LOCATION: IRC Denver Office RESPONSIBILITIES: LEARNING OBJECTIVES: REQUIREMENTS: This is an unpaid internship position. Qualifications
• Assist with know your rights presentations for APA clients
• Assist in the coordination of pro se asylum clinics for Afghan parolees
• Assist in the assembling and mailing of asylum applications
• Assist with immigration screenings for IRC and African Community Center APA clients • Aid in the tracking of services rendered or needed for APA clients
• Conducting and maintaining strong country conditions research to support Afghan clients • Support the Immigration Services Navigator with client communications
• Support the Immigration Services Navigator with document collection and retention from APA clients
• Other duties as assigned.
1. The intern will gain professional experience providing technical assistance and programmatic support to the Afghan Legal Resource Center.

• Strong interest and experience working in immigration and refugee issues.
• Very strong written communication skills, including the ability to effectively distill and present complex information in a concise, accessible way.
• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time effectively.
• Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19
• Dari / Pashto speaker preferred
