Job Description
Job Overview: The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily implementation of all REACH (Refugee Education, Acculturation, Civic Engagement, and Health) Program components. During the Spring Semester this includes academic tutoring and support, mentorship and social/emotional enrichment for high-school aged youth living and enrolled in school in City Heights. During the Summer months, the Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for program development, outreach, and facilitation. This a part-time, short-term position through August 26, 2022. The Youth Program Coordinator will work 18.75 hours/week, primarily in the afternoon. Major Responsibilities: · Outreach and recruit refugee and immigrant youth to participate in various programs at Crawford and Hoover High Schools; · Facilitate after-school tutoring sessions multiple days per week; · Serve as a liaison to key teachers and staff at school sites, district, and community partners; · Assess and monitor students’ SEL gains by regularly administrating and evaluating funder prescribed or internal assessments; · Assist with program development and facilitation of summer youth program including, but not limited to: sports activities, team-building games, art projects, English language lessons, and field trips; · Maintain and input student attendance records; · Ensure all clients follow the policies of the program and report client progress including collecting eligibility documentation; · Participate in weekly Team meetings to collaborate with colleagues; · Engage in community partner meetings to strengthen network of support for youth; · Use IRC and program database(s) as assigned to track client services, outcomes, and metrics; · Other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements: · Local resident of San Diego, eager to work in-person to support refugee and immigrant youth; · Some college or undergraduate degree in the educational/social services field or equivalent years of related work experience preferred; · Past experience with IRC Youth Programs a plus; · Experience working in a diverse, and non-traditional setting with diverse client base; · Experience in a non-profit setting and/or international setting a plus; · Experience with online learning platforms including Zoom, Google Classroom and Drive a plus; · Strong English written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations and lead groups; · Ability to think and work independently; · Must be very flexible, capable of working under pressure with deadlines and handling multiple priorities; · Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment; · Strong digital literacy skills, particularly in MS Office applications and experience with databases; · Proficient in Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, and/or Farsi a plus. Working Environment: · Must be a local resident of San Diego; · Work schedule will be a hybrid model with flexibility in the mornings, and in-person work at school sites in the afternoon between 3:30pm and 6:00pm; some evenings and weekends may be needed for special programming such as field trips; · Regular travel to off-site locations is required; valid Driver’s License, active and sufficient insurance and reliable transportation required; · Standard, professional IRC office environment.
