Interwest Construction is looking for a self-driven Field Safety Coordinator to join our team! This person will report directly to our Safety Director and support all aspects of Safety on job sites in WA State.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, influence, and insight to develop ongoing safety and culture values.
  • Inspect and evaluate projects for hazards, compliance, and accident prevention efforts.
  • Strong knowledge and application of safety codes that govern company operations.
  • Ensure required safety equipment is used, provided, and made available at project level. 
  • Assist with employee safety orientation processes, both in the field and office
  • Maintains records of safety performance metrics and training
  • Recognize and perceive hazards and exposures and ability to act to prevent injuries and accidents.
  • Preparation of site-specific safety plans, which may include site reconnaissance and hazard assessments.
  • Respond to and provide immediate project and facility safety needs
  • Conduct accident/injury investigations, documenting findings, results, lessons learned, etc.
  • Assist with administration of drug & alcohol program needs
  • Proactively analyzes safety program needs at the project and facility level
  • Assist with the management of workers compensation and other risk management claims/issues
  • Cooperates and communicates with vendors, regulators, and contractors. Coordinating with General Contractors to meet requirements while working as a subcontractor. 
  • Recommends means/methods to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or equipment.
  • Other tasks and assignments as directed by the Safety Director.
Daily functions - Visit projects from north Seattle to Blaine & Forks to Yakima in a company provided vehicle to provide support and mentoring which may include safety meetings, safety observations, incident investigation and reviews, compliance matters, immediate corrective actions, customer request and overall promote our safety program and culture. Identify project needs, assess, procure, and deliver project safety items/supplies. Manages assigned small claims and works with insurance carriers and/or claimants. Maintaining safety equipment for operations and facility use. Adjusts daily plans/schedule in response to emergent needs.

Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Washington State, Department of Labor and Industries standards, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Dealing with situations of medical in nature involving sensitive information and confidential company issues.
  • Ability to understand the management of site logistics and contract operations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints, specifications, and contracts. 
  • Ability to foresee events and anticipate changes in conditions and operations to the greatest extent possible and react to these appropriately.
  • Multitask effectively and manage stress load appropriately.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate a variety of people in different roles.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record according to ICI policy and the ability to be insured to drive a company vehicle.
  • Ability to travel to other divisions (Peninsula and Yakima) which may require overnight stays and longer than usual days (14 hours).
Education and Experience:
  • 3 years construction experience with 1 year in Heavy Civil Construction.
  • Safety or related field of study Degree, Professional Safety Certifications preferred.  
  • Certification(s) or other applicable qualifications in Construction Safety and Training ex: OSHA 500, OSHA 30, HAZWOPPER 40, First Aid & CPR
  • Knowledge & Experience in excavation, trenching, shoring, confined spaces, and fall protection.
  • Experience and familiarity with EM 385 and Military Bases Safety Protocols would be preferred. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bluebeam/Adobe.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOSH, DOT, MSHA and workers compensation programs/reporting.
  • Valid Washington State Driver license with clean driving abstract for assigned company vehicle.
Compensation Range: The salary range includes the minimum, midpoint, and maximum base salary values. A candidate's offer can vary depending on differentiating factors, including but not limited to education, training, or experience.
  • $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 Annually DOE
