Job Description

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

The Director of Revenue plays a critical role in ensuring that we deliver the highest quality financial reporting in analyzing and assessing the accounting implications of contracts that we enter into when we sell or lease our da Vinc and Ion Surgical Systems, instruments, and accessories. The Director of Revenue is responsible for, together with the overall revenue team, ensuring that the entire contract lifecycle, from drafting our contracts to shipping our products and billing, is executed effectively. This is done through effective coordination with the global Contracts team, Customer Finance, Sales Organizations, Accounts Receivable Department, Order Management, Logistics, FP&A, and the Accounting Business Process team.

Working closely with the Accounting Business Process team, the Director of Revenue is also responsible to represent the revenue accounting team on cross-functional projects that has revenue recognition accounting implications and/or related processes. The Director of Revenue should have deep understanding of the business, processes, and ability to design scalable system solutions and processes to ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness of the Company’s revenue recognition and reporting process that are adhering to Company policy and U.S. GAAP.


Given the demands on the Revenue Accounting team, the Director of Revenue will need to have strong communication and project management skills, along with having the leadership skills necessary to build strong teams.

  • Own the revenue and lessor accounting process that includes timely execution and review of month-end and quarter-end close activities (including, but not limited to: account reconciliation, analysis, and reporting).
  • Ensure Company revenue accounting and related policy is effective, adhered to, and up-to-date with U.S. GAAP, and that the Company is compliant with all applicable rules, regulations, and laws. Establish the processes and controls if needed to ensure the policy is adhered to.
  • Work closely with the Contracts team and Sales organization to ensure that contracts are effectively drafted, reviewed, and executed timely, along with ensuring that terms that have may have an impact on our revenue recognition are addressed timely in accordance with Company policy and US GAAP.
  • Lead the team to assess non-routine/complex revenue and lease (lessor) transactions and prepare accounting memo for these transactions. Communicate effectively with other stakeholders on the accounting implications including working with the auditors.
  • Develop, mentor, and grow the team to ensure each member achieves his or her personal and career development goals.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and reporting the progress on the team’s vision and long-term plan for how we can continue to drive highest level of quality financial reporting in revenue as we grow and expand our operations.
  • Enhance existing infrastructure (processes and systems) to ensure increased efficiency and effectiveness of the Company’s revenue recognition and reporting process.
  • Build a strong and effective professional relationship with our external auditors to ensure effective coordination of quarter-end review and year-end audit activities.
  • Work effectively with the Contracts team, Customer Finance team, and FP&A to ensure effective quarterly forecast.
  • Lead the team to assist with projects as needed together with FP&A and other parts of the organization.


Skill/Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or equivalent.
  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • 12 years of public accounting and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Public accounting experience is required (Big 4 is preferred)
  • Strong technical accounting skills in ASC 606 (with experience including multiple element arrangements). Experience in lessor accounting (ASC 842) is a plus.
  • Ability to and proven track record of building and developing strong teams, along with establishing the right culture.
  • Great communicator (written and verbal). Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership, analytical skills, project management, process management skills.
  • Ability to work productively in a dynamic environment and be a solutions-oriented team player
  • Experience with enterprise accounting systems, such as SAP is a plus.


Qualifications
