Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
The Optical Engineer will work with a group of talented and dedicated people focused on the development and integration of fiber optic shape sensing in medical robotics. The successful candidate will contribute to the research and engineering of the next generation shape sensing platform as well as provide support to existing products.
As a member of the engineering team, this position will work closely with other engineers in the design and development of state-of-the-art fiber sensing methods. The successful candidate must excel in a small focused team environment, be able to find solutions to problems from rough requirements and have a commitment to high product quality.

Base Salary Range Region 1:$180,400 - $259,600
Base Salary Range Region 2: $153,300 - $220,700

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities
- Contributing new and unique ideas as a member of a highly skilled technical team.
- Designing, constructing, documenting and evaluating new optical fiber sensors.
- Designing, constructing and evaluating free-space optical components and networks
- Making design and process improvements to increase the reliability of sensors and interrogators.
- Designing complex signal processing algorithms and assessing the effects of electronic data acquisition systems on the acquired signals.
- Designing and constructing laboratory experiments to characterize and quantify high speed electronic data acquisition and optical systems.
- Performing complex data analysis to interpret the data from laboratory experiments and connect the results to the model.
- Identifying technological developments needed to bring these new sensors into production.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
- Minimum Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics or similar field
- 10 years’ experience with fiber optics desired
- Experience with Zemax is desired
- Experience with distributed optical fiber sensing using OFDR is desired
- Experience with free-space optical components and networks is preferred
- Experience and/or knowledge of high-speed data acquisition systems desired
