Job Purpose (Job Summary):
Under limited supervision, the Pricing Principal is primarily responsible for operational oversight of the valuation process. This includes oversight of external vendor valuations and the valuations done by external accounting agents. This individual is a primary contact for pricing vendors, accounting agents and auditors. Provides subject matter expertise as it relates to the valuation of complex securities. Must have the ability to analyze complex financial information and have the subject matter depth and breadth to make informed decisions. The Pricing Principal is expected to mentor and train other team members and provide operational guidance and decision making for the team. Maintains strong working relationships with external vendors, accounting agents and internal teams as needed. Responsible for assuring that the daily control processes appropriately mitigate the valuation risks. Independently prepares valuation reports for various Valuation Committees, Board of Trustees, Financial Reporting, and the funds’ independent auditors.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
- Maintains a strong understanding of existing and new investment valuation issues and provides subject matter expertise in the pricing of complex securities.
- Maintains strong technical knowledge of the valuation inputs and assumptions used by pricing vendors and market participants that impact the valuation of securities.
- Researches new investment types to ensure appropriate valuation methodologies are available and provides guidance on appropriateness of those methodologies.
- According to established procedures, reviews and analyzes third party valuations received daily to ensure reliability.
- Proactively reviews and seeks opportunities to improve internal control procedures related to security valuation analysis and documentation where appropriate to meet industry or regulatory standards.
- Along with the management team, provides operational oversight of daily valuation processes to ensure that appropriate control processes are followed.
- Provides peer leadership, mentoring, training, and guidance for other analysts with an emphasis on complex securities.
- Primary point of contact for third party agents and pricing vendors to ensure reliability of complex investment valuations.
- Primary contact for queries from Invesco staff such as Fund Accountants, Compliance, Legal, Internal and External Auditors, and Investments’ personnel.
- Ensures that valuation issues and events are properly documented and assists in the documentation and reporting of valuation issues to various Invesco Valuation Committees and Fund Boards.
- Participates in special projects as required.
Work Experience / Knowledge:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the securities/investment industry is required with strong knowledge of various OTC derivative valuations, controls, and regulatory requirements.
Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:
- Clear evidence of analytical skills relevant to complex valuation issues including but not limited to derivatives and other alternative investments.
- Must understand and be able to explain key financial concepts and how they contribute to the generation and analysis of valuations.
- Must have the ability to research and communicate the valuation methodologies of new and complex investments.
- Advanced level of knowledge on computer equipment and software that supports analysis and valuation of complex securities.
- Must have working knowledge of common market data services such as Bloomberg or Thomson Reuters.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and concentrate on detailed information.
- Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to present information in a concise and informative manner.
- The ability to contribute in a team environment is critical.
Formal Education: (minimum requirement to perform job duties)
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field is required or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would provide the knowledge, skills and ability required.
License/Registration/Certification: (minimum requirement to perform job duties)
- CFA or CPA designation (or progress toward) is required or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would provide the knowledge, skills and ability required.
Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment with little exposure to noise, dust, and temperatures.
- The ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects of up to 10 pounds is also necessary.
- Normally works a regular schedule of hours, however hours may vary depending upon the project or assignment.
- Hours may include evenings and/or weekends and may include 24 hour a day on call support by pager and/or cell phone.
