CAP Counselor Job Description - Part Time
The College Assistance Program, a comprehensive, skills based, academic support program for students with diagnosed Learning Disabilities, ADHD and other related diagnoses, is seeking a part time counselor.
The counselor provides support for students from the interview process for prospective students through their college career in the program.
Duties include:
Review documentation to help determine eligibility for the program and help recommend appropriate accommodations, collaborate in the interview process for prospective students, provide support and counseling to students in the program, with a more intense focus on freshmen as they transition to college; provide linkages to services within the college as well as referrals outside the college, help students identify coping skills to manage stress, and troubleshoot when dealing with inevitable issues that may come up. Provide occasional case management and advocacy to students with learning disabilities, are neurodivergent, or have other disabilities.
Implement wellness programming, including stress management workshops and career workshops; also have the ability to assess when a student may be in crisis and respond appropriately as per college protocol, consult with learning specialists to help manage students well-being. Occasionally consult with an outside treatment provider to coordinate care. Work as part of a team to help students identify strengths and challenges to implement strategies for success. Participate in summer orientation program and other events during the academic year.
Candidates should have a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling; Social Work; or related field, license preferred. Limited permits not considered. Must have experience working with college students and in higher education.
