Job Description: Summary Information Technology Services (ITS) at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Mobile Applications Developer (Software Developer II). This role will not only focus on the maintenance, development, and enhancement of our native mobile applications, but also provide leadership to a dedicated team of student developers supporting these applications. Our primary application, “MyState”, is a student-centric mobile application that delivers critical university-related information, such as classes, dining, bus schedules, events, student organizations, campus maps, directory services, and news. The developer’s role involves creating and maintaining native applications for both Android and iOS (iPhone, iPad) devices using Kotlin, Swift, Java, Android SDK, and Objective-C. Our applications are built on Android Studio and Xcode platforms and are deployed via Apple's App Store and Google Play. Applicants should be proficient with either or both environments. Candidates should be familiar with code development standards and practices, software versioning, quality assurance processes, debugging, testing, and deployment. This role requires collaboration with campus partners, internal teams, and data providers to envision and develop future services, while integrating with existing data resources. Additionally, providing training and supervision to part-time, student developers on the team is an integral part of the role. Our ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving capabilities, in-depth knowledge of software development, solid project management, and prioritization skills. Furthermore, the ability to thrive in a team environment and effectively communicate with campus partners and vendors is essential. Example of Duties • Develop mobile applications for iOS and Android using Kotlin, Swift, and related technologies. • Develop integrations with campus services to provide interfaces to applications. • Manage deployment of mobile applications to Google and Apple stores. • Lead troubleshooting efforts and take corrective measures to resolve related issues. • Consult with campus partners to define future development, features requests, and improvements. • Collaborate with data providers to access enterprise and service data delivery. • Assist in the hiring, supervision, and training of part-time, student mobile developers.
