About the role

As a Jr. Fixed Income Portfolio Manager on the Rates and Trade Execution team, you will join a team of dedicated investment professionals focused on Swiss Re's government and government related fixed income portfolios. You will be engaging in investment analysis, portfolio construction, and trade execution. You will actively follow financial markets to develop a deep sense for the mechanisms at play as well as the human behavioral patterns exposed under different market circumstances.
Key Responsibilities include the following:
- Trading in a range of fixed income securities including bonds, interest rate swaps, and other fixed income derivatives
- Engaging in investment strategy and portfolio construction, including relative value and security analysis
- Monitor net interest rate risk positions within Swiss Re Rates mandates, and reconcile daily risk changes with market movements and portfolio transactions
- Assist in the daily portfolio management process which includes booking trades, writing performance reports, cross-checking profit and loss numbers and producing investment presentations.
- Use a wide range of third-party research and meet with investment bank economists and strategists to develop and examine investment ideas.
- The position offers a very high level of exposure to internal (Treasury, Risk Management and other areas of Asset Management) and external counterparties (sales, trading and research departments of major investment banks) as well as direct exposure to senior management due to the flat structure of the team.
- Support the rates team by automating reoccurring and ad hoc processes and reports using excel, python, Bloomberg, or other systems.
About the team
Rates & Trade Execution is a globally distributed team of ~15 investment professionals located in Zurich, New York, London and Singapore and is part of Swiss Re Asset Management. We are a core function within Swiss Re Asset Management, responsible for managing fixed income portfolios for internal Swiss Re clients (Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions and iptiQ). The group consists of portfolio managers trading in bonds, credit, equity and all associated derivatives for Swiss Re across the world.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or another analytical field, with work towards an additional professional designation a plus (e.g., CFA)
- 1-3 years of experience in the field of financial services; experience within fixed income markets and/or insurance asset management a plus
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint a must); familiarity with Bloomberg and BlackRock Aladdin system desired, programming ability a major plus!
- You have a deep understanding and true passion for financial markets
- You are a critical thinker and capable of conducting your own research and analysis
- Hardworking and engaged team member with strong communication skills
- Confirmed ability to take initiative and act accordingly in a high stress environment
- Ability to think through various options and recommend a course of action in an investment context
