Introduction iRobot is in search of a NPI Costing Manager responsible for managing the Total Cost of Ownership of all products including Cost of Goods (COGS) from cost estimation to finished goods pricing through all phases of the product lifecycle. This is a high visibility role and will be responsible for cost management to evaluate product designs, provide a framework to drive cost reduction, develop cost estimates which are used by cross functional departments in the design and development process, and manage the costing system that provides the product costing statistic to produce financial reports. Working in collaboration with Operations Program Management, Sourcing, and Engineering to develop a cost model at a module level leading up to a full costed bill of material (BOM). This will include analysis at a component and system level with consideration for supply chain dynamics at a regional level to develop a total landed cost analysis. Support the definition and the monitoring of product costing performance and costing process performance at the key development stages by setting the framework, KPIs and communication process. Provide technical costing expertise to engineer product-to-cost and enable design-to-profitability. Maintain costing tools and deliver cost analysis reporting to optimize product value and align targets and costs throughout the product creation process. Ability to identify areas for cost reduction during the design process to assist teams to meet cost targets. Develop “should cost” estimates. Ensure availability of costing performance results for global Business Unit at each key milestone for quantitative assessment to facilitate product cost/value/margin discussions with cross-functional teams and recommend tactical actions/adjustments. This is an exciting, dynamic role in which you will work across all the departments worldwide in iRobot and be relied on an expert to assess design-to-cost efforts and recommend approaches to achieve cost targets. Will manage COGS at a SKU and component level, and provide analysis to drive profitability Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing to identify cost optimized options working in collaboration with Engineering Lead and coordinate the cost negotiation efforts for iRobot with contract manufacturers (CM) Lead discussions with engineering to review the costed BOM and drive DTC (design-to-cost) efforts Maintain cost of components and modules in various tools. Develop / maintain Component/ Assembly Cost Master tool, utilize and develop existing tools Track and maintain a complete listing of all pricing for each Manufacturing site and Product Line Partner with the Manufacturing team to develop a cost roadmap, and lead the cost reduction initiative with in-depth analysis by component and alternatives, and influence Product Management and Program Management teams during the development phase of the product lifecycle with these alternatives Coordinate and support periodic pricing reviews for all programs with CMs Provide leadership guidance around cost and price control, and drive cost alignment across products Manage all material cost changes, and assure all changes are implemented per appropriate effectivity time frames Assure all costs are reflected in all Factory / CM pricing Track/report quarterly cost reductions – historical, forecasted and actual cost structures costing team and timing of pricing implementation with Finance for forecasting Develop and distribute Cost Management reports sharing current / projected costs, performance by Product line to plan, and current issues Develop NPI cost models and provide cost analysis results to assist senior management in decision making Qualifications 3- 5 years industry experience with costing and product cost development and analysis within a manufacturing/operations organization in support of electronic and electromechanical products Experience in a financial role in an outsourced Manufacturing environment Detailed working knowledge and experience with global cross functional teams Must possess strong knowledge of New Product Introduction and Product Lifecycle processes Must possess effective communication skills, and strong financial acumen Experience working with multiple levels, management teams and CM providers Business/ Financial /Technical undergraduate degree with financial training.
