Job Summary:
Field Safety Coordinator – Utility Vegetation (NY State). Under the direction of the Corporate Safety Director, the Field Safety Coordinator will be responsible for providing support and safety leadership to workers in the field. This position requires a high level of self-motivation, organization, planning and follow through.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Conducts site safety inspections/audits to ensure compliance with company and OSHA policies, procedures, rules and regulations
· Identifies potential safety issues and recommends corrective actions as appropriate with follow-up verification
· Ensures safety records are maintained in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements
· Provides on the job training for crews by observing, assisting, and leading job briefings and work assignments. Corrects errors, reinforces safe actions and positive improvements.
· Receives, reviews, and evaluates first reports of any incident and/or accident involving company personnel, equipment and/or activities.
· Represents the Company both internally and externally in a professional manger.
· Performs job site analyses to identify potential employee exposures to injuries and illnesses and institutes safe work practices / procedures.
· Helps manage daily activities regarding injury managements and worker’s compensation issues.
· Provides safety support including, but not limited to, work-site safety, DOT compliance
· Works around excessive noise from machines, chainsaws, wood chippers and must wear proper personal protective equipment.
· Is exposed to all temperatures and weather; will be exposed to nature, i.e., irritating plants, biting or stinging insects, dust, etc.
· Travels to different job site locations to provide field support.
· Performs other related duties as requested.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Excellent oral, written and presentation skills to effectively manage, train, motivate, and communicate with employees, supervisors, and customers
· Proficient in Microsoft Office
· Valid driver’s license and good driving history.
· Ability to travel to job site locations >50% of the time.
Education and Experience:
· 2-year degree in health and safety or a related field is preferred
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews
· First Aid, CPR, OSHA 30, EHAP or additional Board of Certified Safety Professional certifications is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
· Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
· Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
· Walk a great distance over various uneven terrain.
