What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Services Supervisor position at Island County?
- Responsible for supervising staff in the Prevention Services team, including holding regular staff meetings, providing mentorship and technical guidance, and developing workplans and evaluating performance.
- Responsible for reviewing and overseeing policies and procedures for the Prevention Services team.
- Responsible for overseeing and providing technical expertise for community prevention activities in collaboration with community partners and staff.
- Responsible for serving as back-up for staff when appropriate.
- Responsible for participating in coalitions and committees, at the local level, to develop collaborative programs and partnerships focused on community health improvement.
- Participates in Board of County Commissioner meetings, Community Health Advisory Board, and monthly Board of Health meetings, as needed.
- Monitors activities of assigned public health programs by evaluating compliance with regulations, policies and protocols, reviews program outcomes and effectiveness.
- Develops and writes grant applications and related documents including needs assessments, program performance measures and personnel and funding requirements; maintains required reports and records to ensure that funding requirements continue to be met; reapplies for grants as necessary to maintain funding for public health programs.
- Collaborates with the Community Health Manager on presentations to the Board of Health and other stakeholders regarding prevention services and programs.
- Coordinates and manages special projects, assignments, and activities; including implementing evaluation approaches, collects, compiles, analyzes and monitors progress; presents findings to management, identifies alternatives and makes recommendations.
- Collaborates with other Public Health and Island County staff to support cross-team initiatives and services, fostering an inclusive, collaborative work environment. Encourages open communication and collaboration within and across teams.

Knowledge of implementation science and community-oriented program design and evaluation.
Knowledge of principles and practices of public health community planning.
Knowledge of research protocols; skill on different methodologies for data analysis.
Experience in supervision and management principles and practices.
Knowledge of facilitation techniques and ability to use tools for effective meetings with multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of and familiarization with data management and data sharing practices.
Knowledge of community organizing skills.
Knowledge of and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion work across programs.
Knowledge of project management including with multiple stakeholders.
Ability to develop interpersonal relationships with a broad array of community groups.
Ability to conduct educational presentations, foster and facilitate public meetings and see that information is made available to the public.
Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in stressful situations and relate to various personality styles in a professional manner.
Valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or related field AND 3 years of supervisory experience OR
- Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field AND 1 year of supervisory experience.
