We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our Conversion Team, responsible for developing the backbone of our platform's system that transforms uploaded documents into assets for our customers.

About the team

The Conversion Team's mission is to maximize the value derived from uploaded content for both our users and our business. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will collaborate closely with the Reader Technology Team to ensure assets are readily available, as well as with the Publisher Team to showcase these assets to customers within our workspace. Additionally, the Conversion Team leverages various machine learning methods to provide valuable analysis of uploaded documents.

• Design, development, and maintenance of the backend infrastructure responsible for transforming uploaded documents into assets for Issuu's customers. Issuu's tech stack leverages Kubernetes for container orchestration, ArgoCD for continuous deployment, AWS for cloud infrastructure, and AMQP/RabbitMQ for messaging, ensuring scalable, automated, and reliable operations of our digital publishing platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Reader Technology Team and the Publisher Team, to ensure seamless integration and availability of assets within our platform.
• Take ownership of projects from conception to deployment, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and efficient solutions.
• Identify areas for improvement within the conversion process and advocate for necessary changes, providing clear justification for enhancements.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
• Act as an advocate for the Conversion Team, representing their interests and contributions within the broader organization.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Extensive experience in backend development, with a strong proficiency in Python and Rust (a plus, but not required)
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset, with a keen eye for identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively advocate for the team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
