What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Vehicle Engineering Intern position at Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc?

JOB SUMMARY:

Conducts engineering activities related to product design and engineering changes such as drawing creation, engineering specification reviews, engineering cost estimates, development timing determination, and support testing for appropriate projects. Works on moderate supplier design issues to advance problem solutions, engineering reviews, data analysis, potential engineering changes, and component timing. Provides engineering assistance to Isuzu related companies and departments when needed.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

35% 1. Evaluates designs, integration issues, and engineering change proposals for Isuzu Commercial Vehicles. Evaluations include technical content, quality improvement, cost reduction, schedules, and alternative designs. Reports activities and decisions to Sr. Engineer, mentor and/or management for approvals and direction.

20% 2. Communicates effectively with ISZJ engineering, suppliers, production facilities, and other parties based on teamwork concepts using verbal, written, and presentation skills.

20% 3. Works with NX math designs and directs the design department as necessary. Prepares component drawings and evaluates vendor/supplier drawings when needed.

15% 4. Coordinates with suppliers, assembly plant, or other parties to achieve engineering targets and schedule.

5% 5. Assists and consults with other Isuzu departments and companies, sharing technical documentation to support Isuzu’s collective objectives.

5% 6. Investigates competitors’ vehicles or specific subsystems for competitive engineering research. Prepares for presentation reviews and information sharing.

  • Performs miscellaneous job related support duties as assigned. May include garage related or ‘on-vehicle’ modifications or testing.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to: Supervisor or Manager, CV Engineering
  • Department wide cross sharing/training to encourage multi-department learning and team projects

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

  • Minimum sophomore status in the pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

KNOWLEDGE:

  • PC computer system usage and maintenance practices
  • Siemens NX & TcAE CAD design system familiarization preferred
  • Exposure to simulation software or common diagnostic equipment
  • Cyber security fundamentals

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient PC skills in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Internet search techniques

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:

The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of office files, reports or records, typically weighing 5 lbs. or less. Requires occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs) and on rare occasions, heavy lifting (60 lbs). Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties.
