Description
The Preschool/Junior Kindergarten instructor is directly responsible for the implementation of the curriculum provided by the Early Childhood coordinator. They are responsible for leading their own class.
This is a seasonal, part time position. Preschool and Junior Kindergarten follow the School District 10 calendar. They start in late August and run through the end of May.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Applicant must be 21 years or older. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree, CDA, Teaching Certificate, or meet the minimum qualifications for NAEYC. Must have at least 1 year experience teaching. Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of preschool aged children. Must be a self-starter and perform job with little supervision. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and be able to follow written and oral directions. Applicant must be able to handle any questions that arise with the public or be able to properly direct them for answers. Must be honest, have a neat professional appearance, and a courteous manner
Hours:
General work hours are 10-30 hours a week depending on the programs taught. The Instructor is allowed 30 minutes before and after each class for administrative time. There are also three hours per month of project time with the other instructors.
Junior Kindergarten is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:45-11:45 a.m. and 12:15-3:15 p.m. Preschool is offered Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-11:30 a.m. and 12:15-2:45 p.m. as necessary. The Preschool/Junior Kindergarten instructor is responsible to teach each class.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement a curriculum that is both age appropriate and challenging for students.
- Provide participants with the appropriate leadership during the program.
- Develop a lesson plan that incorporates program goals into the daily routine.
- Prepare activities in advance that are developmentally appropriate for the age of the children.
- Assist with all field trips, parties, speakers, special events and graduation for the program.
- Communicate with parents through conferences, letters and daily drop-off and pick-up.
- Maintain a safe environment for participants.
- Submit all written correspondence to the Early Childhood Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor for approval prior to distribution.
- Maintain records of attendance throughout the school year.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Report all parent complaints or problems with other employees immediately to the Early Childhood Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor.
- Responsible for all activities and room preparations for the class.
- Request supplies for the program from the Early Childhood Coordinator.
- After a purchase has been approved, receipts must be reported to the Early Childhood Coordinator and turned in immediately to the Recreation Supervisor.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Make recommendations to the Early Childhood Coordinator for improvement on equipment, supplies, facility and program needs.
- Maintain a neat and orderly room at all times including the kitchen area and bathrooms. (No dishes or supplies are to be left over night in the sink.)
- Responsible for cleaning all toys and equipment.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward co-workers, Supervisor, and all Park District personnel.
- Report all parent complaints or problems with other employees immediately to the Recreation Supervisor.
6. Make it a point to assist with special events involving preschool aged children.
- Assist in other Recreation programs as needed.
- Maintain proper administrative paper work. This includes but is not limited to time sheets, attendance sheets, leave request forms, and accident/injury forms.
- Uphold and enhance the public image of the Park District in any contact with the public.
- Complete other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge:
The Preschool/Junior Kindergarten Instructor must resolve differences and problems that arise with patrons and employees. The worker may also have to work under stressful situations when first aid or CPR is required.
Required Competencies:
- Read, understand and follow Park District safety policy.
- Use and enforce proper safety equipment and procedures to protect against personal injury or damage.
- Report all incidents, accidents, and injuries promptly.
Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions:
Prolonged standing could affect some individual’s blood pressure. The Instructor may need to respond quickly and accurately and perform under pressure. May be exposed to all weather conditions. May be required to work in various temperatures within the facility
