Scope of work
The Maryland Department of State Police (MDSP) seeks one (1) resource to work with its IT division to develop and deploy Tableau-based reports and dashboards. This resource will support the enhancement/development efforts for the Maryland Gun Center’s crime firearm system. This system will provide services to MDSP and all allied partners across the state. This process directly supports the mandate in Senate Bill 861.
This position is responsible for using Tableau to design, develop, implement, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports that provide valuable insights to the Maryland State Police organization and our stakeholders. A key aspect of this role will be working with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective data visualizations.
Education
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline or three (3) years of equivalent experience in a related field.
General Experience
Must have three (3) years of computer experience in technical assignments working under close supervision and direction.
Specialized Experience
- At least one (1) year of experience creating SQL queries.
- At least one (1) year of experience with Tableau Desktop.
- At least one (1) year of experience using Tableau Server.
- At least one (1) year of experience using Tableau Prep.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of Python (programming language).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Gather requirements for reporting.
- Follow the agency Center of Excellence procedures for projects.
- Develop and maintain data models consistent with agency requirements and needs.
- Develop and maintain data visualizations and dashboards.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation of developed solutions and instructional procedures.
- Attendance at MSP ITD meetings (as required).
- Regular status reporting of assigned tasks to MSP supervisor.
- After-hours support (as required).
- Other duties as assigned.
Deliverables/Acceptance Criteria
- Tableau data models, dashboards, and reports.
- Documentation of instructions and methodology.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
