Position Summary: With no or very minimum supervision operates and setup a variety of unique machines such as CNC lathes, mills, mill turns. Must be able to run complex parts. Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and work holding according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities. Must also load part program, perform tool touch offs and make appropriate offsets.
(This is a second shift position that does include differential pay.)
Essential Responsibilities
• Be able to set up and run all CNC lathes and mill turns. • Must be able to program bar feeders and other accessory equipment as needed.• Works closely with ME and Programmers.• Modify speeds and feeds with approval from the supervisor or ME.• Must be able to handle complex parts.• Must be able to operate two or more machines at one time.• Working from blueprints, plans methods and sequences of machining to produce good parts complete as needed to conform to specifications. • Must be able to operate the CMM.• Inspect parts per drawing requirements and log data as required.• Must be able to develop new parts and processes.• Inspect parts per drawing requirements and log data as required.• Check and fill as necessary all CNC machines to ensure coolant tanks, oil and lubricants are full and at correct viscosity levels using a refractometer • Bench drilling small diameter and inspecting work to ensure compliance. • Be able to run any of the cells• Will be required to train Level I, II and III operators on running and setting up CNC machines.• Operating tumbler, wash, debur drill press and other simple equipment.• Identifying and stocking raw materials. • Actively participates in safety and continuous improvement and processes needed to ensure production is maintained.• Must be familiar with and maintain ITT Quick change setup software.• Must be proficient with quick change tooling.• Must keep their work area clean, wipe down each day and maintain all setup tooling in the right holders.• Contribute daily ideas for continuous improvement i.e. setup reduction and process improvement. • Must be able to perform and approve their own first articles for parts that don’t need CMM or be able to perform the first piece inspection as required as the second reviewer using standard quality gages and tools. • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:
• Minimum 15 years CNC machine shop experience as a machinist operating CNC machines.• High School diploma or GED or trade school certification.• GD&T knowledge required.• Must be able to read, write and understand English and follow verbal and written instructions accurately.• Must have general computer experience. • Must be capable of working within tolerances of .0002” in a high-pressure, fast-paced, quality-oriented environment.• Must be able to know when to change a tool and enter in offsets as required.• Must be able to perform standard shop computations (applying geometry and trigonometry) relating to angular and linear dimensions of work, tooling, and speeds and feeds of machining.• Must be able to develop long hand simple programs at the machine (need to Pass Test)• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer services. This includes meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. • Mathematics- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications. Must be able to comprehend the meaning of the calculation.• Mechanical- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, and general maintenance.• Production and Processing- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.• Operation Monitoring- Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.• Critical Thinking- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Consults with engineering and other personnel regarding product information. Ability to interpret blueprints, blueprint symbols, drawings, and sketches.• Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.• Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. • Coordination- Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions.• Design- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. • Ability to lift 25lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally• Must be able to operate a variety of CNC machines such as lathes, mills, and mill turns.• Must be capable of working within tolerances of .0002” in a high-pressure, fast-paced, quality-oriented environment.• Must have own basic tools such as calipers, micrometers etc.• Lean experience in setups and mistake proofing preferred.
