Position Summary
The Payroll Tax Analyst will ensure timely preparation, tracking, and maintenance of payroll taxes and other regulated local, state and federal taxing jurisdictions. This individual will liaise with Treasury, Finance, Legal, Corporate Tax and HR acting as an interface and potential lead to understanding and resolving Payroll Tax matters. This position requires multi-tasking of tax duties along with other tax / payroll related functions and activities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Monitor and audit federal, state and local tax payments on weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis by payroll vendor ADP including the review of 3rd party tax reports.
- Oversee payroll in the processing of federal, state and local tax filings and review of 3rd party tax reports.
- Reconcile weekly payroll invoicing to ADP tax liability totals.
- Handle federal, state, and local tax registrations and maintain accurate tax data in the payroll system including any company tax setup and employee tax data needs.
- Responsible for unemployment tax which includes being the primary tax contact with the Company’s third-party unemployment vendor ADP, maintaining unemployment tax rates in the system and unemployment compliance filing for acquisitions.
- Responsible for internal and external communications of all payroll tax inquiries; tax issues; setup; payment issues; etc.
- Test payroll tax system updates throughout the year.
- Coordinates internal and external payroll tax related audits
- Review and resolve issues affecting company compliance and legal requirements as they pertain to payroll taxes
- Assists in tax compliance matters with the acquisitions and integration of newly acquired companies to ensure the appropriate tax documentation
- Maintain documentation, or develop as needed, for payroll tax process and filings
- Responsible for daily, monthly, quarterly and annual tax reconciliations
- Ensure all payroll tax deposits and returns are made accurately and on a timely basis to prevent potential penalties and interests
- Respond to questions and special requests from employees and regulatory agencies in researching laws and regulations regarding payroll taxes and payroll withholding procedures
- Assist Payroll Manager in quarterly and year-end balancing and W2 reconciliation process
- Assist in monthly and annual census reporting
- Interact and coordinate with external auditors and internal reviews
Position Requirements
Education: Bachelor Degree preferred or equivalent experience
Experience:
- 3-5 years of payroll and payroll tax including multi-state Taxation, International Payroll Tax experience a plus
Skills/Knowledges:
- Knowledge of local, state, federal, country specific tax policies
- Hands on, efficient organizational skills, and strong attention to detail
- Experience working in a team environment
- Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently
- Able to work independently and make sound, timely decisions
- Possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Experience writing and producing reports
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
