Join IU Credit Union as a Mortgage Loan Underwriter!
  

As a mortgage loan underwriter, you are responsible for analyzing loan requests and making credit decisions based on lending policy and sound risk principles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Underwriting and decisioning residential mortgage loans including purchase, refinance, construction, home equity installment and HELOC applications.
  • Analyzing a wide variety of documents (i.e. credit reports, appraisals, income/asset documents, tax returns, purchase agreements, trust agreements and legal documents) to determine eligibility.
  • Understanding and applying secondary market and PMI guidelines.
  • Participating in and contributing meaningfully to the Loan Evaluation Group.
  • Exhibiting sound judgement in structuring routine and non-conforming loan requests.
  • Effectively transitioning between underwriting of loans for sale in secondary market and IUCU in-house products.
  • Recommending to originators cross-selling opportunities of IUCU products and services, including loan steals and payment protection.
  • Professionally communicating lending decisions to employees and members.
  • Protecting member data and handling confidential documents in a professional and ethical manner.
        Other support duties as required by business needs may include:
  • Reviewing PMI cancellation & modification requests
  • Reviewing subordination agreements
  • Reviewing deceased accounts

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years of mortgage experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to quickly develop proficiency in MortageBot LOS, MortgageBot POS and Epysis
  • Demonstrated success in delivering high quality personal service to membership and internal stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing, dynamic and deadline-driven environment.
