ABOUT THE ROLE

The Vice President of Billing is responsible for ensuring that all revenue is billed and collected for all patient visits for treatment of their chronic conditions. This is achieved by overseeing the entire billing function to include charge entry, insurance and patient collections, financial counseling and payment posting. Close collaboration with the Prior Authorization, Contracting and Credentialing teams is imperative for the success of this role.

The success of the Billing Team is gauged by several key metrics:

  1. Taking appropriate post-visit steps to ensure IVX collects in full on services performed
  2. Maximizing the timely collection of insurance payments to reduce and prevent bad debt
  3. Maintaining internal and external satisfaction through efficient workflows and thoughtful communication
  4. Ensuring scalability of team and platform through thoughtful use of technology and process optimization
  5. Collaborating with other stakeholders, notably operations and clinical, to ensure an organized approach to serving IVX’s patients and providers

This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Revenue Cycle and the current team have approximately 45 team members (largely remote). The team is currently responsible for ~$1 billion in annual collections, growing at a rate greater than 30% per year.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure entire revenue cycle is thoughtfully designed and executed to maximize appropriate payments, minimize write-offs, deliver timely cash collections, and offer a high-quality patient experience
  • Works with direct reports effectively focusing on improving the centralized patient billing experience
  • Strong focus on continual improvement, process optimization, and ability to coordinate workflows across cross-departmental teams
  • Responsible for utilization of existing and potential technology tools, including automation, to ensure a stable, scalable platform and team
  • Develops set of KPIs for understanding, tracking and improving collections results, including understanding and impacting trends and collection issues across payors, drugs, markets and other relevant dimensions
  • Articulates clear set of goals for collections improvement and works with billing team and other departments to drive success in these areas
  • Develops, collaborates, and maintains productive and positive working relationships with key local, regional, and national teams to effectively prevent and resolve issues with effective communication
  • Updates and maintains billing policies and procedures with team to support the continued growth of the company in a compliant fashion.
  • Works closely with Product, Operations and Clinical leadership teams to develop a strategic plan for onboarding new markets, new drug therapies and new payor collaborations
  • Collaborates closely with the SVP Revenue Cycle to monitor and evaluate staffing and training needs of new and existing employees and assist with department training and curriculum build out
  • Mentors the team managers to become strong and confident leaders
  • Monitors centralized billing performance; reports, tracks and resolves potential or escalated issues
  • Performs market, Health Plan, and legislative research as needed and analyzes data
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of professionals, including managers and staff, to achieve performance goals and maintain high morale
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and senior leadership
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare billing processes, reimbursement methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities and demands.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Management or related field
  • Extensive experience with revenue cycle in a multi-site, multi-state provider based setting
  • Prior experience with infusion billing on the medical benefit, either in an ambulatory or oncology setting, preferred
  • Proven problem-solving capabilities with data-driven approach to solutions; experience with Six Sigma or Total Quality Management preferred.
  • Strong analytic capabilities, including ability to understand and identify trends in large data sets 
  • Extensive experience with deployment of technology platforms and automation tools to support business growth and improve collections
  • Experience as a “player-coach” who leads by example and can work side-by-side with staff to ensure work is performed in a timely and high-quality fashion
