Position Summary :
The Screw Machine operator is responsible for assisting at various machine centers and performing various non-skilled and semi-skilled tasks throughout the plant.
Essential Responsibilities :
The following essential functions represent the primary of operating screw machines center and inspecting part per engineering drawings and document control chart per customers requirement.
- Operates multiple spindle lathe type manual screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock.
- Read job instructions and drawings for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used.
- Positions and secure specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto stock feeding mechanism and loads bar stock into feeding mechanism.
- If required, install and adjust specified cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station.
- If required position and secure tools in tool holders; set cutting speeds and feed rates.
- Move controls to cycle machine through settings, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for operating factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal.
- Start machine, observe operation, and inspect parts to ensure machining conforms to specifications.
- Assist and / or replace worn tool; operate bench grinder to sharpen tools.
- Carry out work according to company safety policies, OSHA standards and ISO requirements.
- Multi-task with other duties during cycle
- Document actions by completing production and quality logs as required and directed
- Always maintain a clean and safe orderly work area
- Report concerns and / or opportunities to lead person
- Using hand tools to deburr, sand, assemble as necessary
Minimum Skills, Abilities, and Requirements :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to use measuring instruments -height gages, micrometers, calipers and pins as directed.
The Screw machine operator will work with and around a variety of industrial warehouse equipment and vehicles, such as forklifts in an environment that includes exposure to loud noise levels, vibration, chemicals, dust, fumes, mechanical hazards While performing the duties of this position.
- Attend to machinery (workstation) for long periods, up to an entire shift, managing the controls of the equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Use computer keyboard, desk top computer, calculator, and other production tools or controls
- Mentally focus on tasks around large automatic machinery and apply sound reasoning and judgement
- Review documents, monitors, or displays with potentially small print
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, face shields, masks, gloves, or other PPE required to operate equipment safely and effectively
- Move through the production warehouse facility on potentially uneven or slippery surface
- Respond to safety control noises or alarms such as fire alarm, forklifts horns, and machinery alerts
- Reach under, over, above or around machinery or other objects such as bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing to perform work
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the proper equipment.
The typical workdays and hours for the organization vary depending on the role being performed with potential for extended hours, including weekends or holidays based on business needs.
This role will typically be expected to perfor m work Monday - Thursday, 6 : 00am - 4 : 30pm onsite at the Shakopee facility.
This role is classified as full-time nonexempt (hourly) and will work a minimum of 40hrs in a work week. Work is expected to be delivered within established deadlines and quality standards within specific time periods.
This is typically within a 40-hour work week. Overtime (working more than 40hrs in a work week) may be work when approved or could be required if requested by a manager.
