Summary/Objective

The Design Engineer III - Technical designs, develops and evaluates engineered solutions for our customers' material movement requirements as well as research, designs, and develops complex original mechanisms. Primarily focuses on complex designs and mechanisms for customers material movement needs and deriving engineering efficiencies.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design for manufacturability while understanding machine and material capabilities and to utilize that knowledge to design for cost effective manufacturing processes
  • Collaborates with suppliers and has the ability to search for suppliers, discuss design projects and understand pricing structures of new product development. Focuses on complex projects, and develops solutions to custom needs, along with making recommendations for potential new products or product lines/groups.
  • Has a general understanding of electrical and fluid (hydraulic and pneumatic) systems and their integration with mechanical designs.
  • Works with Purchasing to vet new components and ensure that parts meet functional specification and cost parameters.
  • Analyzes customers' requirements and develops cost effective design solutions.
  • Improves upon and generates new tools to increase Engineering team efficiency.
  • Collaborates with the sales team to develop conceptual design prints and renderings.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Utilizes Creo software to produce 3D models and prints.
  • Utilizes advanced analytical tools to develop and validate designs.
  • Processes and publishes shop prints, design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Provides production support to the operations department.
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance to design staff
  • Creates screenshots or renderings as requested by Sales, Marketing, Engineering, or Operations
  • Hands-on Operations & Sales support including, but not limited to: tool design, manufacturing / weld sequencing, pallet design, and shipping procedures
  • Completes other jobs or duties as directed by the Engineering Manager or other members of Management.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience
    • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
    • Bachelor's degree or greater in engineering w/ 5 years in design engineering
    • Associates degree in engineering or related field with 7 years in design engineering
    • In depth knowledge of Jtec products and standards.
    • Has a proven history of successful complex design projects.
    • Ability to collaborate with R&D Engineering and drive new products towards standard configurations.
    • Expert knowledge of BOM structures and how to achieve must have operation milestones

    • Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
    • Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
    • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to move about the assigned area
  • Job involves working from a seated position for long periods
  • Must be able to position self to inspect products and equipment at ground level
  • Must be able to move products or equipment weighing up to or above 10lbs
  • Must be able to work in safety sensitive role, fit for duty and free of any adverse effects of drugs or alcohol, including prescribed or over the counter drugs or other substances which may alter job performance during working times (e.g., drowsiness, impaired reflexes or reaction time, lack of concentration, etc.).
