ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintenance Technician

  • The incumbent is responsible to safely troubleshoot and repair all plant and building equipment, as assigned; such as machinery, fork lifts, cranes, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, etc. The repairs may be mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electronic.
  • Follows established repair priorities and may assist in the troubleshooting of problems.
  • May be involved in carpentry, plumbing, or cement repairs, dependent on the magnitude of the repair required.
  • Assists in equipment installations, hook ups and building renovations.
  • Inspects, operates or tests machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Dismantles machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Performs routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Repairs machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
  • Fills in for the Maintenance / Janitorial staff, when needed.

Shipping / Receiving (as assigned)

  • Ability to become forklift certified and maintain certification, as well as consistently operate forklift in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Safely off loads incoming supplies, material, etc. and notifies recipient of arrival. Safety loads outgoing product, etc.
  • Prepares documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Packs, seals, labels, or affixes postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter.
  • Safely builds crates, packs the parts and ships to the customer in a timely, accurate manner consistent with customer requirements.
  • Maintains storage area in a clean, organized manner.
  • Performs daily fork truck inspections.

General

  • Embraces and participates in J.V.’s Safety culture, always keeping Safety as the #1 priority. Conforms to and follows all safety rules, production, and quality directives. Maintains cleanliness of work area to meet J.V. standards.
  • Reports any incidents that have occurred in a timely fashion and participates in investigations, as required (i.e. safety, spills, accidents, productivity/workflow).
  • Makes suggestions, demonstrates a questioning attitude and is supportive and open minded to new and existing ideas/initiatives.
  • Maintains positive and supportive employee relations through continuous communication with all colleagues.
  • Filing, inventory, administrative, tasks, security, auditing, housekeeping, painting, inspections, telephone calls, ordering, shipping, training, mentoring, updating safety data sheets, and any other duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties and assignments, as deemed necessary, to support J.V.’s dynamic business and operational needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Education – 2-year mechanical degree/technical school or equivalent required.
  • Experience – Previous experience in the manufacturing industry (preferred). HVAC training or certification required.
  • Technology
    • Proficient computer skills, including use and navigation of internet/intranet.
    • Proficient in or ability to learn Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and SharePoint, including work order system.
    • Ability to understand and apply appropriate usage of technology in a work environment including virus prevention.
    • Ability to learn other technology related skills, as needed, to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Knowledge and Competencies – See Appendix A (last page). Includes:
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Interacts well with customers, vendors and co-workers from all levels of organization.
    • Proficient in reading prints and understand terminology.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
    • Motivated and willing to learn.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years of experience in Maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in the tool and die industry

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments; travel to other work sites as required.
  • Work week is a minimum of 45 hours (i.e. 9 hours per day, with a paid lunch). There is additional mandatory overtime as business and operational needs necessitate. Required work hours, schedules and shifts are subject to change based upon business necessity. Required reliable transportation applies to all shifts, as assigned.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level varies throughout the different work areas. Must wear appropriate PPE, as required, in work area(s).

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • General – Physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement; ability to climb unusual heights on ladders, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy loads (up to 50 lbs.); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Near Vision — The ability to see details at close range. Passing an annual acuity eye exam, in accordance with customer requirements, is required for this position.
