POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the surface preparation, paint mixing, and painting of various fabricated units and manufactured components as per the customer’s specifications and the quality standards provided by engineering. Duties include the use and maintenance of all related equipment necessary to complete the painting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: may include any or all of the following.

  • Responsible for surface preparation such as grinding, buffing, washing with a high pressure washer, application of undercoating, and taping/covering areas or components that should not be painted.
  • Operate compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment.
  • Responsible for the identification, safe handling, and appropriate disposal of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials.
  • Select premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors and quality standards.
  • Erect various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach surfaces of work area.
  • Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to embellish and protect interior or exterior surfaces, and fixtures of various fabricated units and manufactured components as per the customer’s specifications and the quality standards provided by engineering.
  • Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray guns, and/or paint rollers.
  • Duties may require auto-body repair including dent removal, body puttying, sanding, and blocking.
  • Responsible for maintaining all related equipment used for painting in good working condition.
  • Maintain daily logs, i.e., paint usage, respirator usage, etc.
  • Observe and follow all Company safety rules and policies.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Attend tool box and safe meetings as scheduled and complete required web based safety training.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (COMPETENCY STATEMENTS):

  • Proven ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability using overhead cranes to move and load compressor and parts.
  • Proven knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and application techniques common to the painting trade.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling, application, and disposal.
  • Demonstrated skill in the preparation and application of paints, stains, and surface preparation materials to a wide variety of surfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide personal customer service and satisfaction. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, respond to management direction; take responsibility for own actions; keep commitments; complete tasks on time or notify appropriate person with an alternate plan.
  • Proven ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3 years of related experience and/or training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A minimum of six months in a vocational/technical training program is preferred.

Computer skills:

  • Beginner level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Applications.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain one.
  • Manlift certification or the ability to obtain one.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
