Overview
As the Logistics Safety Specialist, you will set and execute the vision and key initiatives as it relates to the overall safety and training of our employees and facilities maintenance. This position goes beyond the transportation segment of the business and provides safety and compliance support for the warehouse facilities and fleet maintenance team. You will be responsible for developing a strong safety culture and implementing safety plans, enforcing policies and evaluating practices and facilities to ensure compliance with legal guidelines. The ideal candidate for this position will have or previously had a CDL A or B license. Experience and knowledge with DOT, FMCSA and OSHA compliance.
This is a full-time position, with the primary work location in Crystal Lake, as well as regular site visits to the Elk Grove Village, McHenry and Waukegan facilities. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization by fostering a sense personal responsibility for safety.
- Develop and maintain safety programs, policies and procedures and guidelines tailored to the needs as it relates to the transportation and logistics industry.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state safety regulations, such as those set by the DOT, FMCSA and OSHA for transportation and warehousing.
- Organize and conduct safety training programs for employees, drivers, and other relevant personnel.
- Monitor and track safety training and certifications.
- Conduct thorough investigation of accidents, injuries, or near misses and recommend corrective actions or re-training.
- Ensure sick or injured employees receive first aid or proper medical attention; administer workers’ compensation claims, assist employees with claims, and monitoring employee’s off duty treatment progress and recovery.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of facilities and equipment to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
- Work with company recruiter by running background safety checks on all prospective candidates and maintain CDL driver qualification files per DOT guidelines.
- Participate in weekly company driver meeting to communicate overall importance of driver safety as well as safety performance results, current initiatives, etc.
- Work closely with facility maintenance staff to ensure all facilities are in safe operating condition and OSHA compliant.
- Generate safety reports and metrics to evaluate safety performance and identify trends and areas where safety improvements are needed. Collaborate with department managers to implement safety improvements.
- Develop, maintain and communicate emergency preparedness response plans.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field – Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Transportation and Logistics or equivalent work experience. CSP Certification in safety management, is a plus.
- Several years of experience in safety management, preferably within the transportation and logistics industry.
- Prior experience in regulatory compliance and safety program development.
- Knowledge of transportation and warehousing industry regulations and best practices – DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA and HAZMAT.
- Strong communication and presentation skills. Problem solving and analytical abilities.
- Experience with training, safety and reporting software tools. Strong Word and Excel skills.
Salary : $65,000 - $80,000
