Interior Designer

This is an opportunity for a creative designer with initiative and ambition to work on a wide range of residential projects in Seattle’s Northwest neighborhoods. JDB’s clients have unique design problems, and we strive to develop distinctive and creative solutions. Our designers work in collaboration with our marketing, sales, estimating, and production teams.

Key responsibilities:
- Manage own tasks while supporting and sharing ideas with teammates
- Meet with clients to understand their unique goals and needs
- Develop multiple conceptual design solutions through a combination of Pinterest/Houzz boards, 2D AutoCad, & 3D models
- Refine conceptual plans and create a close-to-final plan for the estimator to develop a preliminary estimate
- Recommend finishes, fixtures, materials, appliances, and other items unique to each project and assist clients in shopping at showrooms
- Work with design manager, design assistant and estimator to manage the selections
- Gather pricing for all items for the successful execution of design solutions
- Prepare RFPs and manage trade walkthroughs to gather trade pricing for fixed price construction agreement in consult with the production manager
- Work with the team estimator on budget solutions
- Produce & submit STFI & full permit set drawings to SDCI
- Produce construction set documents including construction drawings, specifications, specification schedule and job books
- Work in collaboration with, and be a resource for, the JDB production team - handling construction questions and participating in field meetings once projects are in production
Qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in interior design from a certified school
- 5 years residential Interior Design experience
- Dedication to being a team player who achieves results through collaboration with clients, JDB’s team of both internal and external designers/architects, trades, and suppliers
- Service oriented when working with clients and able to adapt to all types of personalities
- A sense of humor, willingness to learn and to share solutions with team and to grow
- Ability to manage multiple projects requiring organization, time management, frequent communication, and problem-solving skills in order to meet design process deadlines leading to construction start dates
- Highly detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage details on multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills
- Passion for finding design solutions and the granular details needed to ensure a project’s success
- Demonstrated ability to design for a variety of styles
- Understand past, current, and upcoming design styles and trends
- Knowledge of building regulations and safety codes
- Demonstrated experience with producing a complete set of construction documents, including STFI permit set drawings, specifications, and specification schedule
- Proficiency in AutoCAD software with demonstrated space planning skills
- Proficiency in 3D modeling, such as SketchUp
- Project management experience a plus
