TITLE: Pre-K Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUPERVISES: Assigned Educational Assistant
TERM: 10 months (200-day contract)
JOB GOAL: To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a pre-kindergarten learning environment that guides and encouraged students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor's degree as required by the State of Tennessee
- Teacher's certificate with qualifying endorsement area
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must undergo a physical exam by a healthcare provider every three (3) years
- Must receive at least 30 hours of documented professional development in the area of early childhood education
- FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable
EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts and maintains a highly organized and professionally functioning classroom.
- Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans
- Collaborates with other faculty in the delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Shows empathy and understanding of students.
- Proactively resolves problems that might arise with students and parents.
- Directs educational assistant, student teachers, substitutes, volunteers, and /or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Facilitates preschool students' learning for the purpose of improving the students' academic success and transition to elementary school.
- Facilitates parent/student/teacher conferences.
- Continues professional development.
- Follows policies established by Jackson Madison County School Board and Tennessee State Department of Education.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
