Job Summary
Examines patients with breating-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patient to use medications.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropirate action.
Measures lung capacity and collect blood samples suing a blood gas analyzer.
Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropirate.
Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research and best practices.
Responds to codes and call for emergent assistance. Assesses paitent condition and delivers appropirate treatment.
Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
Monitors, receives, stocks and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
Disassembles and cleans equipment.
Perfomra routine respiratory care including, Aerosol and O2 therapy, ventilator care, CPT, airway care and maintenance incentive spirometry.
Performs EEG's and ensures neurologist has report to read.
Scores sleep studies.
Performs PFT's.
Schedules procedures for sleep studies, neurology and respiratory.
Performs pre-certs and authorizations of insurance for ordered tests.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma Required
Two years of college Required
Graduate of Program in Discipline Required
BLS required. Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Required
Licensed with the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Therapy.
