Support our Critical Mission Solutions Line of Business and have a hand in transforming tomorrow. As the Architectural Department Manager in Oak Ridge, TN, you will work with other engineering and technical professionals on projects that are vital to our national security.
These projects will support national security customers and other federal agencies including our Department of Energy client entrusted with the stewardship of the nation’s nuclear deterrent and a nationwide complex of production facilities and national laboratories.
In this role, you will manage Architects and Designers who will be designing multi-discipline projects from start to finish.
You will be responsible for assisting with proposal efforts, producing discipline manhour estimates, performing manpower forecasting, mentoring staff, responsible for the Architectural staff performance on projects relative to scope, schedule, budget and technical adequacy.
Interface with other departments, Project Managers and clients. Duties will typically be performed in an office environment in our offices in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and occasional trips will be required for site visits.

Prepares estimates of workhours required to accomplish designs
Participates in planning, cost development, management, and scheduling for assigned projects
Develop manpower forecasts for Director of Engineering
Assists with other tasks as assigned by Director of Engineering
Responsible and accountable for the technical adequacy of the design performed by the Architectural Department
Develops design concepts to address client needs and requirements
Develop reports, drawings, and specifications
Performs design document reviews / checking
Performs work in accordance with functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and client procedures, and quality assurance procedures
Be subject matter expert in nuclear facility design
Plan and lead facility design charrettes and interactive planning sessions
Develop and maintain design requirements

Here’s what you’ll need :
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be a Registered Architect and have the capability to obtain additional architectural licenses in other states.
Hold or be able to obtain Department of Energy Security Clearance
BS or advanced degree in Architecture from NAAB accredited college or university.
Working knowledge of the design and construction process
Minimum 15 years’ of Architectural design experience, or 10 years’ of Architectural design experience with an advanced architectural degree.
Leadership experience
Experience in development and leading of design charrettes.
Experience in development and management of design requirements.
Knowledge of sustainable design practices for LEED and DOE Guiding Principles
Experience in REVIT and BIM
Preferred qualifications :
5 years’ experience as an architectural supervisor
DOE / nuclear design experience
PMP certification
Project management experience
Resides in the greater Oak Ridge, TN area
Experience with NQA-1 quality program
Q security clearance
LEED Certification
MS or PhD
Multi-state RA registration including CA, ID, TN, NC, NM, NV, SC, TX
NCARB registration
Expert in REVIT and other BIM tools
Ownership in architecture firm

Physical Requirements :
Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods (100%) as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs (25%).

Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. Must take and pass a pre-employment drug and background check.
May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities.
Travel required : Less than 10%.
