We are looking for a highly motivated Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator to join our team in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. In this role, you'll be responsible for the implementation of an industrial pretreatment program and recommendations to ensure local, state and federal regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Tracks and interprets pretreatment program regulations
• Identifies requirements and responsibilities of POTW and industrial citizens
• Maintains monitoring data and compliance records
• Maintains current list of industrial users and open communication channels with same
• Reviews Industrial User applications, drafts and submits discharge permits for review and implementation
• Provide recommendations for city sewer use ordinance code enforcement
• Conduct construction plan reviews to ensure new or existing facilities include pretreatment devices (i.e. grease interceptors)
• Reviews industrial process changes and needs that may affect discharge to POTW
• Recommends revisions in local pretreatment regulations and the POTW pretreatment program to keep them current with federal requirements and to meet the process needs of the POTW
• Conducts and documents inspections of industrial users, food establishments and other industrial sanitary sewer contributing customers
• Respond to emergency spills or sanitary sewer overflows caused by industrial users and respond to these emergency call-outs within one hour of notification
• Inspect sanitary sewer systems, pulling manhole lids, collecting samples, and making recommendations for system improvements
• Schedules and conducts or coordinates sampling for the purpose of compliance and surcharge monitoring
• Assist laboratory sampling collection if needed
• Reviews self-monitoring and other monitoring data and determines compliance status
• Calculates and reports surcharges for high-strength loadings (if applicable)
• Develops or assists the client in development of Enforcement Response Plan
• Develops or assists in the development of technically-based local limits (TBLL)
• Provides technical assistance to client in determination of appropriate enforcement actions
• Assists POTW operations department in diagnosing process problems and identifying the source
• Attend pretreatment conferences (as requested) to understand current regulations, trends and practices
• Prepare Industrial Pretreatment Annual Report and others as required
• In the absence of, assist the Environmental Compliance Manager by leading morning PODs, attending meetings, or other assigned tasks
• Performs other duties as required relating to departmental activities

Here’s What You’ll Need:• Graduate degree in a related field (Business Management, Environmental, or Chemistry)
• Possess a valid Driver’s License – State of New Mexico with no major infractions
• 1-3 years’ knowledge of sanitary sewer collections systems, sewer flow patterns, impacts upon collections system and adverse conditions that impact POTW
• 1-3 years’ experience with field inspection of sanitary sewer/collections systems and/or facility inspections.
• Ability to obtain Industrial Pretreatment Program certifications or related trainings supportive to the IPC role
• Intermediate level of experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
• High school diploma or GED
• Mid-level Collections New Mexico Operator Certification
• New Mexico Sampler Certification
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to read blueprints; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction.
In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; carry a 50-pound toolbox up a flight of stairs; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
